In our review of Ereban: Shadow Legacy, we noted that the game was not compatible on Steam Deck. That being said, some games can still run and perform well depending on their level of fidelity. This was not the case for this game due to it running very choppy and in lowest of framerates. But due to the first major update for the game on Steam. The game is now Verified, but how does it run?
How Does Ereban: Shadow Legacy run on the Steam Deck?
Well, the answer is very well. It is recommended to run the game on the medium preset for the best performance. But I tried it on high, very high and ultra to see how it ran and it was weirdly similar to the how medium and low runs in chapter four. It will stay at a fluctuating 30-40 frames-per-second no matter what settings I tweak. It is still far better than the launch version, but I do see more optimizations being needed. Despite the fact the game does not really need the best performance in most scenarios. I am able to hit 60 frames-per-second in enclosed areas, and only get hits in performance in more open areas. As a result, I can only recommend playing it on the Steam Deck at the settings you will get the most battery life out of.
On top of this, they also made some notable changes to the experience in Ereban: Shadow Legacy. As listed from their patch notes here:
- Reduced the sonar cooldown from 25 to 18 seconds.
- Increased highlight time for major collectables from 5 to 7 seconds.
- Made the sonar launch position fixed and not dependent on player position.
The sonar made exploring every level for collectibles and upgrades much easier. So, being able to use it more often and not having to worry about positioning is a nice touch. They also reduced the length of certain conversations and improved the Russian and Spanish localization for the game which is also great.
They also released a roadmap for more updates, including difficulty options:
Ereban: Shadow Legacy is available on Steam with a small discount to $19.99, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Due to the shadow form mechanic that made the experience very worth it to me.
