Soulframe Devstream 13 Breakdown

Soulframe Devstream 13 Keyart

Earlier today, Digital Extremes hosted their most recent Devstream for their fantasy MMORPG, Soulframe. In this Devstream, it hosted a lot of new and exciting content for the game in the next Preludes update. Not only that, but we got a small tease of what to expect in the next Preludes update following this upcoming one. But concerning the next update, Preludes 14 has quite a lot of awesome content and changes. Below will be everything they showed from Devstream 13!

Everything from Devstream 13 for Soulframe

This Devstream showed that Preludes 14 is packed to the brim with a lot of awesome content. There’s a new pact, a new Ancestor, a new Fable quest, a new siege, and some new weapons. Not only that, but there is going to be a brand new dungeon to explore in an unexpected way.

For starters, the new Pact coming to Soulframe is called the “Duelo”. Its abilities will allow you to buff your allies’ virtues, create a shadow clone of yourself to deal double the damage, and even let you summon an aimable flintlock pistol that deals massive damage and pierces through enemies. Its passives will let you bleed enemies to death and have a cool, perfect dodge animation that summons a decoy for you. The Duelo sounds incredible right off the bat.

This pact is going to be earnable through the new Fable, The Wreck of Mestra Carmo. This Fable will be centered around boss fights on pirate ships after interacting with the shipwrecks around Midrath Island. There will also be 5 new weapons coming to the game, 3 of which were shown on stream. A new sword and shield weapon, an Ode caster staff, and a brand new weapon type, a Rapier with stylish equipping and fighting animations.

New Activities, System Changes, and a New Dungeon

Another new Siege is being added to the game. It will be at a very large Ode castle with dynamic level design. There will be a new enemy type in this Siege called the “Conductor” that seemingly buffs its allies and is much harder to kill. There are also 5 new “votives” being added, which are discoverable side quests in Midrath.

Three systems are being reworked in Preludes 14 for Soulframe. Runes will now be a system that allows you to bank charges choose when to activate their abilities via heavy attacks for melee weapons. It is unclear how this will work for staves and bows at this time. This is something I personally asked for in my critique of Preludes 12 in December, even though the result is going to be very different. Joineries will also now be mainly used for Virtue attunement for damage scaling, and Orlick will now have expanded usage in the game. He will have an expanded enemy codex and mini-missions to undertake to learn more about the world.

Finally, there was a reveal of a new Ode dungeon set in the ruined towers in the corrupted areas of the map. These dungeons are dark and eerie, and feature new enemies and a brand new boss. All of this is coming in Preludes 14 in mid-April (or later), according to the Devstream.

Small Teases for Preludes 15 in Soulframe

Near the end of the stream, they talked about a complete system revamp to the loot system. Resources are staying as random drops. But weapons (and hopefully armor?) will now drop fully built. This will allow the developers to use a rarity tier system for gear instead of crafting. The fully built gear you like will be upgradeable at Tuvalkane, the blacksmith. They will still have certain legendary or “ancient” gear that will still need to be crafted. More details can be found here through the official VOD of the stream here.

Overall, Devstream 13 for Soulframe was very meaty and hints at a lot of systematic changes for the game. The game is set to become very different soon, possibly as a “prelude” to the game’s official launch on Steam. Please stay tuned here for more coverage of the game in the months ahead, Envoy!
