Nintendo to Develop a Live-Action Legend of Zelda Film

Nintendo has announced the development of a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo will be overseeing the production with Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions. Ari Avad’s IMDB highlights his production chops, with movies such as Spiderman: Into The Spider-verse, The X-Men trilogy, and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

With Nintendo and Ari Avad producing the movies, Wes Ball (Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) will be directing. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures will be the worldwide distributor of the film. Nintendo saw success earlier this year with the Super Mario Bros. Movie which grossed $1.36 billion dollars worldwide. That success made further Nintendo film productions a virtual guarantee. That their next offering will be live-action may come as a surprise. What is not surprising the fact that it will based on the Legend of Zelda.

With the Super Mario Bros. Movie and now Zelda being adapted for the big screen, which Nintendo IP would you like to see in theaters next? Let us know in the comments below.
