Soulframe Devstream 5 Breakdown

Yesterday, Digital Extremes held their 5th Devstream for Soulframe. Devstream 5 offered a glimpse into all that is being added in Preludes 9, and when to expect the update. Preludes 9 is slated to launch anytime in the next few weeks, and it is going to add some very interesting changes. Here is everything they talked about in Devstream 5!

Tearing Down Walls and Healing Trees

In Preludes 9 for Soulframe they will be removing all of the giant Ode walls that are in the game. These walls prevented players from freely exploring Midrath Island, but players can now explore at their leisure. However, do keep in mind that there will be a lot of work-in-progress content. But they did show off gameplay a new side quest related to the Silent Rose faction. This side quest involved finding a note, interacting with a relic and doing a public event where you bait and switch an animal cage with a bomb.

While exploring Midrath Island, you will now find corrupted trees you will have to heal. Healing these trees will reveal parts of your map, and healing all of the trees on the Island rewards you with a new weapon. They also showed off the combos for the new caster weapon. The caster weapon will be a pair of gauntlets that fire out lightning projectiles. If you are moving you will fire slower, but if you stand in place, you can fire faster. The downside to these is that you will not be able to parry melee attacks but can still block them.

New Soulframe Social Hubs and Upgrade System

The biggest highlights of Devstream 5 were the debuts of 2 new social hubs for factions in the game. In the beginning of Soulframe you will be required to pick one of three factions:

  • The Silent Rose.
  • Alca’s Children.
  • And Kith of Kins.

Each faction will align with one of three major stats for your character. Not only that, but they will also have their own goal in the narrative and mission styles that differ from the others. Avakot will be the leader of Alca’s children, while Fen Jotarr, who originally was in your Nightfold Tent will be the faction leader of the Kith of Kin in a breathtaking presentation of the hub:

Also coming with Preludes 9, alongside a rework for the bow, a new Ode corrupted dog, and new music coming to The Glades dungeon, will be a new weapon upgrade system. With Fen Jotarr no longer being the mote ancestor, you will now acquire runes in the game. There will be major and minor runes with their own weapon altering effects, like area of effect explosions, crowd control and healing properties that are all tied to the “Smite” system. The smite system is when an enemy glows and you are able to perform an extra action to do more damage to them.

Finally, to cap off the stream, Digital Extremes answered some questions from the live stream chat.

Devstream 5 Q&A Highlights

Alongside a lot of people asking for codes for their pets (which varied in results), Digital Extremes revealed the following:

  • Trading may come to the game at a later date.
  • Lock on is being improved in Preludes 9.
  • One of the founder’s packs will include a unique item players can craft and trade amongst other players (which sounds interesting but may be weird due to the aforementioned trading system).
  • Fen Jotarr will have his own dedicated Pact, aimed at allowing fire ability usage.
  • Finally, they are looking into adding enemy level scaling dependent on your rank with your factions.
