Both will arrive on January 15, 2026 and pre-orders start today at $64.99 for the full Switch 2 Edition or just $4.99 to upgrade for existing owners.

This is a wonderful surprise for fans who have enjoyed their island life since 2020 or those who left because of the lack of updates. Either way, fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to, including some long-requested features. Let’s dive right into what was announced:

Collaborations — When Worlds Collide

The v3.0 update weaves in delightful crossovers to expand your island’s possibilities. LEGO® fans will love authentic brick-built furniture and decor sets that spark ultimate creativity in your homes and rooms. The Legend of Zelda will have a special collaboration as well. Scanning amiibo figures can unlock special visitors, Tulin and Mineru. You will also find Link and Zelda’s outfits and furniture inspired by the games. From Splatoon, scan amiibo to invite Cece and VJ over. These characters are based on Shiver and Frye from Splatoon 3.

You can also unlock fresh ink-themed outfits and decor. Finally, you can shop for retro Nintendo consoles—NES, SNES, and Game Boy—right in-game to play classics like Ice Climber and Dr. Mario. You can also collect classic Nintendo toys like the Ultra Hand. These partnerships add even more cool items to work towards when you return to your island life.

In Conclusion

Nintendo is bringing exciting updates to look forward to for the Animal Crossing community on Switch 1 and Switch 2. However, with this update, it’s hard to believe we’ll be seeing a new Animal Crossing game soon. The next full title is likely at least a full year away, but the v3.0 update paired with the Switch 2 Edition will keep your paradise fresh and engaging for a little while longer.

This release also perfectly bolsters Nintendo’s already solid 2026 lineup, featuring titles like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Mario Tennis Fever, Pokémon Pokopia, and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. With such a diverse and packed schedule, it promises non-stop excitement and variety for Switch 2 owners throughout the year.
