For Those Who Come After – Expedition 33 has Crossed 5 Million Copies Sold with New Content Coming Soon

2025 has been a bit of a roller coaster of a year for indies and AAA games alike. For every Avowed, we had a Hollow Knight: Silksong to balance things out. Similar to balancing “Woo’s” with “Wee’s” as Esquie would put it in the surprise hit of this year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This game took the internet by storm by delivering on every promise it showed in every trailer, with rave reviews and glowing praise from players alike. It is a title that felt like a miracle to exist, and recently, it was announced that it had crossed 5 million copies sold after launching in April. That is no small feat for a turn-based JRPG of any caliber, let alone a new IP.

To help celebrate this announcement, Sandfall Interactive surprised us all yet again with an announcement. That being they are working on a post-launch update that will add new content to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Here is everything we learned from the announcement!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had the winds of the gaming community and critics alike at their backs. With millions of copies sold in mere weeks, and glowing praise across the board. It was a rare outcome for a debut game, but one that was completely earned. Over the months, Sandfall Interactive has added multiple ways for players to tune their experience. Whether that is wanting more enemy health or limiting damage dealt by characters, and even being able to retry battles at the press of a button. That being said, in the recently announced update (with no release date for), you will be able to enjoy the following new content and changes in the game when it arrives:

  • A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover.
  • Challenging, new boss battles for late-game players to overcome.
  • New costumes for each member of the Expedition, giving even more customization options for players throughout their adventure.
  • New text and UI game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.

There was also a cryptic tease of “more to come” as well. Indicating that there may be some surprise additions coming in this announced content drop. But it could also mean that there are more content updates coming to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, only time will tell. This news only makes Sandfall Interactive shine brighter in the eyes of their fans (me included).
