Capcom Actually Announced a Brand New Mega Man Game

Something I was never expecting to see from Capcom again, seeing as the last installment of the series was released in 2018, is a new Mega Man game. Sure, there have been many “legacy collections” that have come out over the years, including my most anticipated release of 2026, the Mega Man Starforce Legacy Collection, but when the only current releases have been re-releases of long-forgotten games, it can feel a bit discouraging. That is, until last night at The Game Awards.

One of the most mysterious reveals outside of Divinity from Larian Studios was the announcement of Mega Man: Dual Override. This game is set to launch in 2027 on all platforms (including PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch 1) as the 12th installment of the original game series. But there are not a whole lot of details about the title just yet.

What do we know so far about Mega Man: Dual Override?

Well, let’s take it from the top. It is going to sport the original style and format of the original games. With 2D platforming, shooting the iconic Mega Blaster, and the usual platforming hazards. Projectiles shooting across the map, traps in the floor, and more.

One part of the gameplay shown in the trailer was that it appears Mega Man will now show wear and tear during battle, as you can see below. There didn’t seem to be any wall sliding or dashes present in the short trailer. But that is all that can be taken away from the announcement.

Below will be the full trailer with all of the action shown during The Game Awards last night.
