Magic The Gathering Upcoming Universe’s Beyond

In the current Magic The Gathering landscape one of the continued focuses seems to be on their Universes Beyond product. We have seen this product release earn some vitriol reception as well as excitement from other fans. I find myself somewhere in the middle. So let’s briefly reveal the upcoming Magic Universes Beyond product.

Past & Current Product

For a while now Wizards of the Coast, which is owned by Hasbro, has been releasing Universes Beyond. Its first release with the Secret Lair, Walking Dead, was received very poorly by many fans. This was primarily due to it having mechanically unique cards you couldn’t get anywhere else at the time. Over time, Wizards has rectified that by being able to get some of those cards in other products. More collaborations are being done with video games and other IPs I have enjoyed. So overall I’m leaning toward the more positive mindset. Here are the past and soon to be released Magic The Gathering Universes Beyond collaborations:

  • The Walking Dead
  • Stranger Things
  • Arcane
  • Street Fighter
  • Fortnite
  • Warhammer 40,000
  • Transformers
  • Dungeons and Dragons
  • The Lord of the Rings
  • Creepshow
  • Dr Who
  • Evil Dead
  • The Princess Bride

Over time, the community has warmed up to the releases. With so many lines released though, it’s hard for people to keep up. This really affects many different local game stores especially, smaller ones. The crazy thing is these aren’t even the normal Standard products that get released throughout the year. So I can understand what some mean when they mention they are drowning. I enjoy most of the products they release, but with the economy, as it is some local game stores have suffered.

Upcoming Product

The more gaming collaborations Magic The Gathering has the more it peeks my interest. Here are the upcoming Universes Beyond products we know about:

  • Jurrasic Park/World (November 2023)
  • Fallout (March 2024)
  • Assassins Creed (July 2024)
  • Final Fantasy (2025)
  • Marvel (2025)

When it comes to the different Magic The Gathering Universes Beyond products it can be a few different things. We could get some single cards that are special arts or reskin of previous cards. Products like Lord of the Rings had a whole set dedicated to it. We even got different art in the text used in the movies. We also got the “One Ring.” Some of these products have been released as Pre-made Commander decks. I am definitely interested in the upcoming Fallout product which we know will have some Commander decks.

Magic is dealing with some of the most popular IP in the world. Recently, a collaboration with Marvel was announced and who knows how extensive that might be.

Wrap-Up

Magic The Gathering has been around for over 30 years. I believe it will be a TCG that’s around for many years to come as well. I like the majority of the things that are released, especially Legacy format-related things. Additionally, I would like to see them continue to help out local game stores as they can be the heart and soul of a community. Many people look forward to seeing what else Wizards of the Coast does in the future. Just as long as they keep the game we love healthy and flourishing for many years to come. What do you think about these products? Stay tuned as I will be providing more Magic content in the future.
