Assassin’s Creed Remakes Incoming

In a recent interview, released on the Ubisoft website, Guillemot said the following regarding remakes/remasters for the long-running series;

Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.

With the wave of remakes from publishers like Capcom with the Resident Evil series, this move makes sense.

What Will Be Remade?

According to Kotaku, the first of these remakes will be the 2013 sea-fairing adventure of Assassins Creed: Black Flag. Kicking off the at the time latest generation of consoles, the cross-generation pirate adventure getting a new coat of paint is welcome.

More so considering Ubisoft could take assets and technology that powered the recently released Skull and Bones. That title shares a fair amount of DNA with Black Flag after all.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Trilogy

One trilogy of games that could potentially get the remake treatment is the Ezio saga, spanning Assassin’s Creed 2 through Assassin’s Creed Revelations. Held in high regard and with minor quality-of-life improvements, they make for great remakes.

Specifically, the fact Ubisoft could approach this trilogy like how Square Enix approached the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga.

Assassin’s Creed III

This release would benefit the most from a remake. The title was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii U in 2012. It brought a unique setting for the series, covering the American Revolution in Boston, all the while introducing the ship combat that Black Flag utilized later on.

One of the game’s core issues was pacing issues and that could easily be resolved with a remake. In addition, the updated tech for the Black Flag remake could be utilized here as well.

Closing Thoughts on Assassin’s Creed Remakes

While I am not the biggest fan of the series, Ubisoft’s approaching the release of Assassin’s Creed similar to how Capcom handles the Resident Evil series is a very smart move.

It allows the original experiences to continue releasing with long enough development cycles, all the while the remakes utilize fewer resources with shorter development cycles. This setup has been a winning formula for Capcom, so why not for Ubisoft’s pillar franchise as well?

Only time will tell if this strategy will pay off for the publisher but as the remakes release, expect Lords of Gaming to cover them. Are you all excited about Assassin’s Creed remakes? Let us know in the comments below!
