Warframe Players Only Had Amir’s Shockwave for Two Days, and They Already Want to Keep it

First revealed at TennoCon 2026, Amir’s Shockwave was a fun little announcement that Amir from the Hex in 1999 would be taking over the Nightwave radio. This is a first, as the Nightwave system has been going on for years and has only ever featured the original host, Nora. Sure, there have been little stories and various waves of cosmetics, mods, and more featured over the years. But this is the first time a new character in Warframe has taken over as host, and the reception so far has been very positive since Wednesday.

Warframe Nora Nightwave Time Tempests Keyart

The nightwave system was first added to the game in 2019 and has been the battle pass-like system in Warframe. It is unique in the live service space as it is completely free and cannot be paid to progress. Instead, you are just locked into daily and weekly challenges for around six months (ensuring you have plenty of time to finish them). At first, there were new little story beats in the Origin system. Like the Wolf of Saturn Six, amongst a few others. But as the years went by, it has just been refreshed to keep the free goodies coming. That is, until Amir’s Shockwave was announced.

This let the Hex’s child-at-heart gamer and hacker hijack the Nightwave for presumably the normal amount of time for all the little wacky hijinks and jokes he can throw out there. Obviously, a disruption of the norm should be upsetting for players, but that is not the case. As several posts on the game’s official subreddit and other posts on social media have been praising the shift in tone (amongst other things), and may be alluding to the fact that Digital Extremes may have to look into making Amir’s commentary over on the Nightwave an option, instead of just a one-time deal.

Why are Players Loving Amir’s Shockwave in Warframe?

A little bit of context is needed for Amir’s Shockwave. Back in December of 2024, Digital Extremes launched Warframe: 1999 to the masses. This update exceeded players’ expectations and, in turn, was given overwhelmingly positive praise from the community. The characters from the update were the biggest highlight, and the community grew attached to them. So, fast forward to over a year since the last 1999 story beat took place after Isleweaver, and Amir’s Shockwave arrived not with just a reskin to the Nightwave system in Warframe but much, much more.

Alongside all the new cosmetics and other rewards you can unlock. Amir’s new dialogue as the voice of the Nightwave has been shockingly hilarious and nostalgic in all the right ways. From little references to old commercials like one from Tootsie Pops, and a Simpsons homage of Amir prank calling Vay Hek over the radio, are just little examples of why the community is loving him right now. There are also other bits that the community loves. Such as one where he pretends to be a rock station before playing a slow song. This was in reference to a very old meme. There is even a hilarious exchange with Arthur, telling him to get off the comms. With Amir replying with simply: “You’re not my real dad!”

The reactions from the community have been what you would expect. Players doubling over in laughter, catching the references and posting about them. All the while, they start the conversation of wanting Digital Extremes to possibly let this persist, or be an option in Warframe.

But is it More than just Memes and references the Community is enjoying?

Obviously, this update also includes a little side quest of sorts for players to enjoy. If players have every member from the Hex as “Close” in the KIM system, they can play a mini-adventure called “Fables & Frontiers”. Obviously, it is just a little text adventure. But letting players spend more time with the beloved faction really elevates the mood amongst the community. Not only that, but you can buy more cosmetic goodies if you have some leftover reputation to spend with them.

Amir’s Shockwave in Warframe really is opening Pandora’s box. Sure, the community is riding the high of refreshed Nightwave commentary. But it has only been a few days, and the community already craves the option to not let Amir’s commentary go. Nora’s dialogue has not really changed over the years and has become clearly repetitive to longtime players. Unless Nora gets new dialogue in the next Nightwave, letting Amir stay as an option would be amazing for players who are clearly in love already.
