Star Wars Outlaws – The Final Preview
Star Wars Outlaws is a month away from release. No doubt it’s one of the year’s most anticipated games of 2024, despite a tumultuous ride for Ubisoft’s foray into the Star Wars IP. Lord Addict of our sister platform Iron Lords Podcast had a chance to sit down and try out the game. Here is the final preview of Star Wars Outlaws.
Star Wars Outlaws Preview and Impressions
We managed to try out the game for a few hours. Star Wars Outlaws isn’t like the typical Ubisoft formula that has been common for the past decade. The game does enough to differentiate it from other Ubisoft titles like Assassin’s Creed and the Far Cry series. Surprisingly, there’s even a whiff of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon where you can mark targets and one-shot them in one go.
Star Wars Outlaws does encourage a stealth approach, but going in guns blazing is always an option. However, the lack of Jedi presence is a rarity within Star Wars content. Since the game focuses on the different warring factions of the criminal underworld. Yet, we won’t know until we get the games in our hands.
Dynamic Reputation System
The game sports a dynamic reputation system that will show how your actions impact your standing with the different criminal syndicates. In addition, the reputation system will also show your rewards for siding/betraying certain factions.
Players can expect a lot of outer space travel and combat. There were a lot of mini-games available during the preview. Including a rhythm-beat-based data spiking mini-game to hack open doors.
Combat felt fluid, especially when moving in out out of cover. Conversely, space travel did not feel as tight or responsive compared to on-foot combat.
During the Star Wars Outlaws preview, it was strange to see the Galactic Empire as a background antagonist. That is due to the different factions taking center stage for the most part.
Graphically the game is quite the looker. There are a lot of details in the characters and environments that should impress players.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30, 2024, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
