The Best Narrative category is one that typically involves two or three games in a given year that stand out above the rest. This year featured tremendous stories. Stories that took us from the furthest depths of space to the nightmares of our own design. Great games that told stories in a wide variety of ways were seemingly released every month. More than that, there were stories for everyone. From the political intrigue found in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes to the wild and wacky shenanigans of Ichiban and co in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Whether you craved cinematic exaltation or design your own character arc, the games of 2024 were there for you to build your own experience. With that said, here is the winner of Lords of Gaming’s 2024 Golden Lance Award for Best Narrative.
Winner – Metaphor: Refantazio

One must ask the question; what is Fantasy? Is it a dream we have for a better tomorrow? Or is it the brutally harsh reality we all live in? Metaphor: ReFantazio not only answers this question but offers biting commentary on the modern world of today.
From the game’s powerful opening hours, until the credits roll, you are engaged in a narrative that teaches you, the player, what a better world could look like. And most impressively, it takes the usually mute main character and gives them a voice.
While Persona 5 made efforts to give Joker a personality, the efforts made with the protagonist in Metaphor go the extra mile, making the social link mechanics have an impact on the overall main narrative.
