Why Nintendo Should Add Achievements to the Switch 2

Achievements tied to the account

One thing that I love about the achievements and trophy system is the progress that we make in games ties directly to the account. If you look at my profile on either PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam, you physically see the progress that I have made in the games. This is beneficial because looking at the lists helps gauge how much content is left to experience. Without needing to physically go into the game itself. It offers a more bird’s-eye view. With storage space having a hard limit, we may not have certain games downloaded on the system. Having an achievement system helps in these situations as well.

How Far Am I?

Ever boot up a game after taking time off and be completely lost when you pick it back up? Yeah, I find myself in these situations all the time. With so many awesome releases and having so little time, I tend to forget what has happened or what the goal is. The thing that comes in clutch in these moments for me is looking at some of the last achievements I’ve earned. Whether it be completing a certain chapter or defeating a boss. These help give context in figuring out what to look up online. Especially if we find ourselves lost in these expansive lore-filled worlds.

The Nostalgia Hits

There are moments when I am just browsing through a platform’s UI. Looking through the stores, call it virtual window shopping. In these moments, I always end up looking through my lists of games. Even going as far back as I can. Just to get a little kick of nostalgia. It feels like a snapshot of life I experienced. Or a moment that is now far gone. When I look through my lists, I always end with this sentimental feeling. Like, what was young Subeg doing up at 5 am grinding out the PlayStation All-Stars platinum trophy? These moments are missing from Nintendo. We have to just use our memory for those nostalgic hits on the Nintendo systems.

A Further Incentive

The last thing that I love the most about the achievement and trophy system is the motivation to play the games more thoroughly. Seeing everything or accomplishing everything the developer has tasked us to do is a rewarding feeling. And then being able to delete the game, knowing I have conquered it all, is a nice feeling. Of course, there will be games we leave behind. But having something tangible that ties to our accounts can be a further incentive for us to go back and give the games another chance. The achievement & trophy system works hand in hand in this respect.

Nintendo Please add Achievements

All of the reasons above are why I would love to see an achievement or trophy system added to the Nintendo platforms. Right now, the Nintendo Switch account only states the amount of time that you put into the game. It does not wholly reflect the journeys we go through.

Whether that be with the hero of time saving a princess, or earning first place in a 200cc Grand Prix match. These moments are ones I would like to display on my account. Revisit the snapshots one day and have fond memories about it. Achievements and trophies serve as accomplishments we made in the game. And earning them all is also one way we can show gratitude to the creators of these video games. Or offer us another incentive to keep pushing through these games, which are our hard-earned investments.

I would love it if Nintendo added an Achievement or trophy system on the Switch 2; it would make me want to go through more of their games completely. And offer me another reason to play some of their older titles once again.

But what do you think? Would you like to see Nintendo add achievements on the Switch 2? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
