How Borderlands 4 is Saving the Holidays

While Borderlands is not necessarily a live service title, Gearbox does give it a little bit of that live service love. Whether it is with free seasonal updates or paid DLCs, they always aim to keep their games going in perpetuity. Such is the case of last night’s announcements from PAX Australia. This event is where Gearbox revealed its holiday plans for Borderlands 4. While the game is already packed to the brim with stuff to do and enjoy. The holidays are around the corner (sadly), and Gearbox is ready to fill your calendar with more exciting loot to chase and a deadly Invincible boss to take down!

The Horrors of Kairos, and How Rush Saved Mercenary Day

From October 23rd to November 6th, players of Borderlands 4 can enjoy the first seasonal update. This update is themed around Halloween and will be called the “Horrors of Kairos”. This event will function as follows from the official announcement page:

During the event, world boss encounters change the weather to a terror-inducing blood rain, with new Legendary loot you have a chance to get from world boss kill rewards:

  • “Murmur” Legendary Tediore Assault Rifle: Executes weakened enemies with guaranteed crits on targets under 35% health.
  • “Skully” Legendary Order Grenade: This death-dealing grenade fires out projectiles as it seeks out the nearest target.

This means you might have to take down “Rift Champion” bosses to earn either of the new legendary weapons.

The Horrors of Kairos will be a free time-limited seasonal content drop. The first DLC for Borderlands 4 is dropping, and it will be a Christmas-themed holiday event called “How Rush Saved Mercenary Day”. This DLC is part of the Bounty Pack and will contain the first Vault Card. Which will include 4 pieces of re-rollable legendary gear, 24 unique cosmetics, and new main missions to take on.

How Rush Saved Mercenary Day will launch on November 20th and is included in the Bounty Pack, which is $39.99 USD. Below will be the teaser trailer from their official YouTube channel.

The First Invincible Boss Launches in December for Borderlands 4

Now it’s time for the more exciting news. For endgame players of the Borderlands series, the first Invincible boss has been revealed. It is called “Bloomreaper the Invincible” and is being released in a free update in December. Invincible bosses are the cream of the crop, or the nightmares in dreams, so to speak. But for those who have never taken on one of these bosses, they will have a lot of health and do a lot of damage compared to other bosses. Bosses like these are designed to be challenged in a group, especially with the new enemy modifiers they teased as being “lethal”.

Bloomreaper will have its own unique arena, as well as legendary loot to farm for. However, be forewarned, this challenge is not for the faint of heart and will need the best loadouts and skill sets you can muster. That being said, Borderlands 4 seems to be stacked for the holidays. With 2 meaty free updates to enjoy this month and December. While also offering the first Bounty DLC to enjoy, with more to come in January onward.
