Movie of the Year Category – Golden Lance 2025

The post-COVID age hasn’t been kind to the movie industry. While theatres have been having a harder time trying to fill the seats, thanks mainly to the rise of streaming and lack of must-see movies, it seems that 2025 has turned a slight corner. With nostalgia making a comeback, it seems that movies have plenty to offer for different audiences. From tried and true sequels to remakes of 90s blockbusters to a golden age of horror films, movies are more diverse than ever before. With that said, the winner of Lords of Gaming’s 2025 Golden Lance Award for Movie of the Year.

Movie of the Year Winner – Sinners

What a pleasant surprise Sinners was in 2025. It was quite the performance by Michael B. Jordan. First of all, there were no expectation going into the film. Initially, it appeared to be a period piece from the South, going on culturally showing off black slavery. But to the surprise of many, it turned into a gruesome horror flick with vampires that threw off everyone in a positive way. The performances were fantastic with a great twist at the end.

Ultimately, Michael B. Jordan performance of portraying two distinct versions of twins was impeccable and outstanding. In additional, credit to director Ryan Coogler. Not only did he do something unique, he paid a lot of homage ato music culture and origins such as hip hop, soul jazz. A lot of music was well represented in Sinners, and he was able to capture a faithful depiction of those musical genres in the South.

The movie is doing a lot at times, but despite the wide breadth, it manages to remain unique and captures audiences’ attention easily. No doubt Sinners is one of the best cinematic surprises of 2025. We highly recommend checking it out and deserves the Golden Lance Award for Best Movie of the Year.

Runner Up – Weapons

weapons movie with title children running in the streets

As someone who isn’t the biggest horror movie fan, Weapons had me hooked from the first trailer. The premise of an entire classroom waking up at the same time in the middle of the night was not only mysterious, but also piqued curiosity. That sense of mystery and intrigue is essentially maintained throughout the film with jump scares scattered throughout the ___ run time. Eventually, Weapons finishes off with a nice pay-off c.

Weapons doesn’t do anything drastically new, its eerie atmosphere, intrigue, and strong cast performances are front and center. Though I will probably never buy Campbell’s soup any time soon again, it is easily one of the most enjoyable films of 2025 and worthy of the runner-up spot for LOGNET’s Golden Lance Award for Best Movie of 2025.
