Raya and the Last Dragon Stands on Top

This past weekend, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon took over the box office. Tom and Jerry were able to have a healthy second weekend. These two movies combined finally took down The Croods.

Raya and the Last Dragon grossed an estimated $8.5 million this weekend. Given that the movie was also released on Disney+ for $29.99, I would say that this is a good opening weekend. In the foreign market, the film is sitting at $17.6 million, giving it a worldwide total of $26.1 million. Right now, the film is sitting at 96% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Looks like Disney has another hit on its hands at the moment.

This past weekend we’ve had three separate movies get released. It has been a long time since we had more than two movies come to the box office. The strange sci-fi movie Chaos Walking grossed $3.7 million this weekend. While Boogie took in $1.2 million during its first weekend at the box office. This large number of movies caused The Croods: A New Age to finally drop down below $1 million. Tom and Jerry earned $6.6 million this weekend. Bringing its worldwide total to $57.2 million at the box office. This is a great total for a movie that was released on HBO Max at the same time.

We don’t have any movies being released in a large number(wide) of theaters next week. It seems that these newer movies will be battling for the top spot. One thing that should be on the list was released on Amazon Prime last week. Coming 2 America was released on the streaming service. Later this month look for Zach Snyder’s cut of Justice League and Godzilla vs Kong on HBO Max. Army of the Dead will also arrive on Netflix later this year. This will be another film from Zach Snyder releasing this year.
