Highlights from the Video Game Awards 2025

Video Game Awards stage

As the year concludes, it’s fantastic to reflect on our favorite moments, and the reveals at the 2025 Video Game Awards were one of them.

From seeing legends return and exciting new IPs, we at Lords of Gaming want to share our top announcements from the show!

Reflecting on all the announcements, only a handful really got me excited.

The Return of Tomb Raider

Following a string of solid remasters of the original six Tomb Raider games, and the surprise port of 2013’s Tomb Raider on Switch/Switch 2, Lara Croft makes her overdue comeback with two adventures.

The first being Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the first Tomb Raider. Developed in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog (Evil West and Shadow Warrior), it leverages modern technology while still honoring the spirit of the original game.

What got me the most excited is the reveal of a brand new installment, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, developed by Crystal Dynamics. Taking place a few years after Tomb Raider: Underworld, it features an older Lara Croft going on her most dangerous adventure yet.

Bradley the Badger

One of the biggest surprises at the VGAs was Bradley the Badger. Described as “a love letter to games and the art of making them”, it’s an action/adventure game that uses the act of playing around with game assets and using them to solve challenges and overcome various puzzles.

Directed by Day 4 Night Studios founders Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor) and Davide Soliani (creative lead on Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Sparks of Hope, and Rayman in the Phantom Show), it’s a game to look out for when it releases on Steam in the future.

Lord Flame

While known for his love for JRPGs and being the expert on Warframe, Lord Flame’s most-hyped reveal at the VGAs is one many here at LogNet are looking forward to.

Mega Man: Dual Override

I am a massive Mega Man fan. I have been since I was (surprise, surprise) a little kid. The blue bomber was there for me in its many series. Whether it was the original I stumbled upon with the Game Boy, the Zero series on the Game Boy Advance, and of course, the X series when I was playing on PlayStation growing up. Seeing a new Mega Man game, albeit a safe 2D approach, still got me immensely excited.

As someone who has willingly (and frantically) gone out and bought every collection Capcom has released for the series on multiple platforms, knowing my willingness to spend (maybe) more than most actually got me a new entry that Capcom can probably keep going forward with, and maybe a new series in the future? Well, it makes me feel vindicated and happy.

To stop beating around the bush, Mega Man Dual Override is going to be a nostalgic return with hopefully new and interesting mechanics like Capcom tried with Mega Man 11. While we know very little about it so far, I am eagerly awaiting 2027 to get my hands on it and see if Capcom has a vision they can stick to. Instead of many collaborations and collections to package up and sell over time.

Mahmood Ghaffar – Editor-in-Chief

Two games caught my attention from Geoff Keighley’s big night. The first, Star Wars Galactic Racer brought back nostalgic memories from Star Wars Episode I Racers from the N64 days. Despite Pod Racers’ simple setup, it was an enjoyable game in the dreaded Jar Jar Binks era. However, Galactic Racer looks much more grounded and possibly with part upgrades in mind. I am for all for that.

The second game that stood out to me was Control: Resonance. As a big admirer of Remedy games, Control just takes everything the developer is known for and cranks it up to eleven. I cannot wait to jump back into the twisted and confusing world of AWEs and the FBC with all of its glorious weirdness
