Looking to Represent the Brotherhood of Steel?
Gunnar Optiks is doing its part to help the members of the Brotherhood of Steel see clearly, whether you’re an overseer spending hours in front of a monitor ensuring the safety of the vault dwellers in your care, or out in the wilderness hunting Mirelurks.

Gunnar Brotherhood: Built to Last
The first thing I noticed was the quality of the protective case that contains the Brotherhood of Steel eyewear. The case is sturdy and of solid build. Black with white lettering on both sides. One side shows that they come from Area 51, and the other side is branded with Gunnar and Fallout. The hinge that joins the two sides is solid. When you snap the case closed, you get a satisfying click, knowing your eyewear is safe.
The Gunnar Brotherhood of Steel eyewear comes in a choice lense types. The choices consist of Amber, Sunglasses, Amber Sun Shift (the lenses darken in bright light), and Amber Max. The Amber and Amber Max versions come with Gunnar’s patented Gunnar-Focus Technology. For the purposes of this write-up I was provided with Gunnar Brotherhood of Steel Amber. Upon removal of the eyewear from the hard case and taking them out of the micro-fiber pouch, I noted how the frame feels. The gunmetal frame feels solid, as do the spring hinges. The aviator-style lenses remind me of glasses I once had; the wider diameter means less unfiltered light gets through. The lenses themselves have the patented G-Shield coating and are smudge-resistant. I notice how well this works when I compare it to how easily my other glasses smudge.
Comfort and Clarity
When I first picked up the Gunnar Brotherhood of Steel Glasses, I noticed they felt a little heavier than the glasses I’ve worn previously. This is due to their extremely sturdy build; after all, things can get rough outside the vault. After wearing them for a bit and getting used to the weight difference, I stopped noticing the weight difference at all. I definitely notice the difference in visual clarity with the Gunnar Focus technology compared to other amber-lensed eyewear. The amber lenses themselves do not make everything so “yellow” as to be distracting. In fact, after an extended time in front of my monitors, I forget I’m wearing amber lenses at all. When using the Gunnar Brotherhood eyewear, I don’t suffer from eyestrain nor get headaches after a long session of staring at screens.
