Sifu, a new action brawler from sloclap, was announced to come to PS4 and PS5 tonight. Sony’s State of Play event was light on announcements, but this one certainly qualifies.
Sporting a cell shaded art-style, we see the protagonist punch, kick, and generally maul his way through corridors of opponents. Environmental interactions bring flair to finishing moves. Particularly noteworthy was taking a goon’s crowbar only to send it flying to take down a second foe. The game feels steeped in classic John Woo stylings. Interestingly, we see Sifu aging considerably over the course of the game. Perhaps this tale of revenge spans an entire lifetime. It would certainly be a unique take on the genre.
No release date was announced other than a nebulous 2021.
