The first side mission you will obtain in Double Fine’s newly released Psychonauts 2 is Norma’s scavenger hunt quest. This sees Raz trying to earn his clothes back by exploring the game’s four hub areas to find all sixteen of the scavenger hunt mission-critical items.
Players will not be able to complete this mission until late into the main story, however. This is due to some items and areas not being available until the final few missions. For those who have missed a few items along the journey or do not fancy a post-game retread then here is a handy guide of every scavenger hunt item.
Psychonaut Name Plaque
Location: Motherlobe
Abilities Required: None
This is one of the easier Psychonauts 2 scavenger hunt items. It can be found on the office door of Coach Oleander. Simply head past the aquarium towards the agent’s offices area to find it.
Day-Old Sushi
Location: Motherlobe
Abilities Required: None
Another easy Psychonauts 2 scavenger hunt items find. The Day-Old Sushi is located on the first counter within the Noodle Bar.
Enemy Surveillance Device
Location: Motherlobe
Abilities Required: Pyrokenisis, Astral Projection
You will not be able to obtain this item until late into the game. Once you have gained the Astral Projection ability, pay a visit to the Artifact Storage Room. Remember the locked door you came across here at the start of the game? Use your enthusiastic Astral Projection to unlock the door and claim another scavenger hunt item.
Deck of Cards
Location: Motherlobe
Abilities Required: Telekenises
This is perhaps one of the most well-hidden Psychonauts 2 scavenger hunt items in the game. To find the Deck of Cards, head to the Astral Lanes Bowling Alley. Use your Telekinesis to pick up the bowling balls and send those pins flying. After using three bowling balls instead of a fourth the Deck of Cards will make an appearance.
Astronaut Ice Cream
Location: Motherlobe
Abilities Required: None
Head to the Nerve Center and pay close attention to the circle of monitors surrounding the middle of the room. One of those monitors will be lit up green. Interacting with this monitor will cause another to light up. Follow this chain until the monitor on the outer areas of the room lights up. Interacting with this outer monitor will reward you with some delicious Astronaut Ice Cream.
Psitanium Knife
Location: Quarry
Abilities Required: None
Standing outside the Motherlobe, look to your right and you will see a cave across the lake. Use your expert platforming skills to make your way into the cave and up onto the highest platform within. It is up here that you will find the Psitanium Knife.
Agent Orientation Laserdisc
Location: Quarry
Abilities Required: Levitation
From the Quarry enter Otto’s Lab. Towards the back right of the room, you will see an electrified floor. Use your Levitation ability to safely roll over the pulsing electric and reach the Agent Orientation Laserdisc on the other side.
Unexploded Bomb
Location: Quarry
Abilities Required: Pyrokenisis, Levitation
Head towards the abandoned mine. Just outside the entrance is a lonely campfire. Use Pyrokinesis to set the campfire ablaze then ride the air upwards using Levitation. The Unexploded Bomb will be waiting on a suspended plank of wood above.
Can of Corn
Location: Questionable Area
Abilities Required: Pyrokenisis, Levitation
The Can of Corn can be found in the same fashion as the Unexploded Bomb. Head into the Cave of the Sassclops found within the Questionable Area. Just before the skeletal remains of…I do not want to know…you will find another unlit campfire. Light it up, ride it up, and find the Can or Corn perched on a platform above.
Switchblade Hatchet
Location: Questionable Area
Abilities Required: Time Bubble
Within the Questionable Area, you will find a watermill whose wheel is appearing to prepare for takeoff. Using your Time Bubble ability, you can slow the wheel down enough to ride it up to the roof of the watermill. It is here that you will find the Switchblade Hatchet.
Human Skull
Location: Questionable Area
Abilities Required: Telekinesis
What a lovely item to find within a campsite. In order to claim your very own Human Skull head to the back of the Questionable Area. Here you will find two trams that have come to a standstill. In order to get them moving again, you must find the nearby gears and use your Telekinesis to place them back onto the motor beside the lower tram. Once repaired, the trams will begin to move. Wait for the top tram to reach the bottom before jumping on and grabbing the Human Skull.
Novelty Mug
Location: Questionable Area
Abilities Required: Astral Projection
Another late-game item. Once you have the Astral Projection ability head to the Lumberjack Diner at the start of the Questionable Area. Besides the main counter, you will find a locked closet door. Use Astral Projection to unlock the door and find the Novelty Mug within.
Viking Helmet
Location: Green Needle Gultch
Abilities Required: None
From the center of Green Needle Gultch take the route towards Cassie’s house (the trial with an unhealthy amount of honey and bees everywhere). Shortly into the route, you will see Helmut’s van on your right with a little path leading behind it. Follow the path behind the van and the Viking Helmet will be all yours.
Signed Copy of Mindswarm
Location: Green Needle Gultch
Abilities Required: None
Once you have completed Cassie’s mission return to her beehive home. Simply find Cassie in the study room and talk to her to receive the Signed Copy of Mindswarm.
Beehive Shaped Like My Phone
Location: Green Needle Gultch
Abilities Required: None
As you approach Cassie’s house, instead of entering continue right past the front door. After wading through a lovely pool of honey, you will find the Beehive Shapes Like My Phone.
Mini Murder Bug Bot
Location: Green Needle Gultch
Abilities Required: Pyrokenisis
Enter Nona’s House within Green Needle Gultch. From here climb the ladder to reach the upper level. You will find a doorway blocked by vines and thorns. Use Pyrokinesis to show those plants whose boss and clear the way. As you head outside follow the platform left and you will eventually come across the Mini Murder Bug Bot.
