We live in an economy where it seems like everything just keeps getting more and more expensive. For example, see the current price of a dozen eggs at your local supermarket. However, this issue does not just reside in your grocery store. The cost of gaming is going up this is from games, accessories, and even the consoles themselves. PlayStation had to increase the price of the PlayStation 5 globally outside of the United States. Now it appears Xbox will be increasing the price of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S Price Hike In February
As originally reported by Gematsu and Famitsu it is official that both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles will be facing a price increase this February. A 5,000 yen price increase will be applied across both sku’s of Xbox Series consoles. For those that reside in the Western world, this is equivalent to an almost $40 USD price increase on Xbox consoles. The Xbox Series X will now cost 59,978 yen ($460 USD) while the Xbox Series S will cost 37,978 yen ($291 USD). This price increase is set to take effect officially on February 17th.
An official statement was given to Famitsu from Xbox Japan stating the cause of the price increase was as follows. “After carefully evaluating the market condition in Japan, we have decided to change the suggested retail price of Xbox consoles in the country. We regularly evaluate the impact of local pricing to maintain reasonable consistency across regions. This price revision affects our customers and was a difficult decision to make, but going forward we will continue to provide the ultimate Xbox experience that our customers expect.”
