Square Enix to Release Live A Live on PlayStation

Square Enix announced an upcoming PlayStation port of Live A Live. After twenty years in the shadows, the critically acclaimed RPG continues its triumphant return.

The Beloved RPG Continues its Victory March

Live A Live follows in the footsteps of Octopath Traveler’s curiously named HD-2D, an animation style that displays 2D character sprites in a 3D environment. Last year’s remake featured gorgeous visuals and excellent music. Simultaneously, it retells a collection of stories across time and space in an episodic format. Over the years, these episodes have gathered a dedicated cult following, including Undertale’s own Toby Fox.

The remake released last August on the Nintendo Switch, nearly doubling the original SNES release’s lifetime sales in two months. Square Enix now continues its victory march with an upcoming couplet of ports on PlayStation systems.

In addition, PlayStation also released a demo on the PlayStation store. The demo will feature three of the seven chapters of the game, and any progress on the demo can be transferred to the full game. Additionally, those with a PS+ membership can catch a nice 20% discount if they pre-order the game now.

The featured episodes include “The Wild West,” “Twilight of Edo Japan,” and the “Distant Future.” This gives players a taste of the episodic structure, gameplay, and aforementioned HD-2D visual style.

Live A Live will release on PS4/PS5 on April 27th.
