It feels like almost every week we hear about more and more layoffs across the gaming industry. While many publishers are celebrating continued growth in revenue and profit. Publishers continue to seem to feel pressured to cut their workforce. Earlier this week we learned of layoffs affecting PlayStations Visual Arts team. Now it appears more jobs are getting chopped at a different PlayStation studio. With Media Molecule becoming the latest victim of downsizing.

Media Molecule Downsizing Ahead

As originally reported by GLHF, Media Molecule is reportedly set to lay off around 20% of its workforce this week. This was then confirmed by Media Molecule officially, who took to Twitter to release this statement.

“We have had to make the difficult decision to begin the consultation process for team members within certain departments of the studio. This is a tough moment for the individuals impacted and the studio overall. Every single role that has been put at risk is delivered by someone who has contributed something special to Media Molecule. We will make sure those impacted receive the best support we can provide during this process.

These layoffs unfortunately are not that surprising as the studio stopped support for their Dreams title this September. As they regear for an unannounced new project it is unclear of what the scale of this new title might be. But, one thing is for certain. It is said to see more people become displaced in more industry layoffs.
