Day One Gems – Exciting Games Launching Into PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium
Thanks to services like Game Pass existing, PlayStation has had to up the value of their own services. Launching the new tiers of PlayStation Plus, Extra and Premium, with the PS5 generation has been a great value. One lingering criticism, however, was the lack of day-one launches on the service, especially since some Sony games launched day-one on Xbox.
That began changing with titles like Stray and Humanity releasing into Play Station Plus in their Extra/Premium tiers, only continuing with indie darling Sea of Stars in 2023. This year seems to be no different, with both Dave the Diver and the upcoming Tales of Kenzera: Zau launching into the service.
Dave the Diver Launches into PS Plus Extra
Following on PC and Switch to critical success, Dave the Diver now splashes onto PlayStation shores.
Greetings. I’m Jaeho Hwang, the director and game designer behind Dave the Diver. I’m excited to bring Dave the Diver to PlayStation 5 on April 16, expanding the game’s horizons and inviting more players through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.
Offering a mixture of genres all wrapped into one enjoyable, comedic experience, this indie darling will delight PlayStation Plus subscribers.
As someone who has never played this before, I can’t wait to dive into the deep.
Tales of Kenzera: Zau Launches into PS Plus Extra
Additionally, a brand new 2024 release is launching into the service. Coming from the EA Original’s program, the Metroidvania-inspired Tales of Kenzera: Zau is launching into PlayStation Plus.
Eventually, we all will contend with grief. It can come in many forms and from many different sources. Surgent Studios’ (founded by Abubakar Salim) debut game, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, is a 2.5D story-driven, action-exploration game all about facing those emotions and discovering how love gives us the courage to press on after a devastating loss, and it’s coming to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog at launch on April 23rd, 2024! (Available with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium memberships).
Taking inspiration from titles like Ori, this promising action/adventure title seeks to offer a tight platforming experience with impressive looking combat to boot.
When other EA Original’s launched, like Immortals of Aveum and Wild Hearts, they did not set the world on fire. By launching this title into a subscription service, it allows players to try before they buy. For a game like this, wanting to tell a powerful story and offer the world a great experience, the more eyes on it the better.
A point worth mentioning, is that this title will eventually come to Game Pass players via EA Play. So it’s inclusion into PS Plus, alongside Immortals of Aveum being part of the Essential PS Plus Tier this month, is quite interesting. Could they both be coming to Game Pass sooner than later? We will report as the story develops.
Overall Thoughts
It’s fantastic seeing two great looking titles get a fresh set of eyes on them and I look forward to seeing what else gets added to PS Plus Extra this month. But what about you all? Will you be playing Dave the Diver? Or enter the magical world of Tales of Kenzera: Zau instead? Let us know in the comments below!
