TennoCon 2024: The Lotus Eaters Q&A With Megan Everett

TennoCon 2024 was filled with many great announcements from Digital Extremes for the Warframe community. One such announcement was The Lotus Eaters, an upcoming prologue style quest that is slated to launch on the 21st of this month. In anticipation of the update, we at Lords of Gaming were able to send in some questions regarding the scope of this update, and Megan Everett, the Community Director of Digital Extremes was able to answer them for us!

Where The Lotus Eaters Came From, and What You Can Expect

In Whispers in the Walls there was a small teaser for Warframe: 1999 that gave everyone who played it something they knew was coming next year. But when it came to The Lotus Eaters it came as a surprise to me, and as such I started our Q&A by asking: “Where did the idea for The Lotus Eaters come from?”

And Megan replied with:

The Lotus Eaters came from a lot of questions people have had for us since 2023’s TennoCon. “What happened to The Lotus after The New War? Why wasn’t she involved in Whispers in the Walls? How does she tie into 1999?” We want to try and address those questions before we head back to the eve of Y2K, and answer the biggest question of all; “How do we get to 1999?”

Following this up, I asked, “What can players expect following updates like Dante Unbound and Jade Shadows?” and considering the update is upcoming and not wanting to give things away yet, Megan elaborated on the upcoming fall update and beyond:

“We have another update in the same vein as Abyss of Dagath planned for later this year, we called it our “2024 Unannounced Update” during this year’s TennoCon, where we revealed it will have a new Warframe, Caliban Rework, and much more. We will have deets to share on that during Tokyo Game Show in September!

For Jade Shadows, that was a very personal project for the team to hone in on one of our favorite characters and a nice detour on our road trip to 1999. We definitely plan to tell similar stories in that same vein after 1999 and maybe spend more personal time with more fan fav characters. Can’t say when, where, or who, but just that it’s something we want to keep doing if fans want us to.”

Finally, I asked about the scope and feeling of The Lotus Eaters: “When it comes to The Lotus Eaters as a “Prologue” style quest, is there a specific tone that the team is going for like past quests of its style, like Apostasy or Chimera?” Considering those quests lead into much larger quests, and Megan was able to respond with:

“Exactly like those other Prologues, it’s meant to set a tone and narrative stage for 1999 while also addressing some questions players have had about The Lotus. It’s a small appetizer to prep you for the big entrée of Warframe: 1999. You’ll have to play to see exactly how though!”

The Lotus Eaters will be a free update for all players on PlayStastion 4|5, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, iOS, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. If you would like to follow Megan on her official X account, you can so here.

Special thanks to Digital Extremes for the opportunity to ask these questions!
