Warframe Devstream 191 Breakdown

Happy Friday to you, Dear Reader and Tenno alike. Today, Digital Extremes hosted their final Devstream for the year. Devstream 191 was a look at a lot of exciting content, changes, and choices for players coming in The Old Peace. Not only that, but we also learned when players can expect to play the upcoming expansion to the game, and when players with Android devices can finally play Warframe on the go. Here is everything we learned from today’s Devstream!

Closed Beta for Android Starts on November 28th

Warframe on Android devices will start to become a reality on November 28th. Digital Extremes confirmed this will be a slow rollout in the closed beta. Which means if you are not selected on November 28th, your invite will come in time, as the invites will be issued in waves.

We at Lords of Gaming were given the opportunity to play a little bit of the mobile version at TennoCon earlier this year. You can find our full impressions of the interesting mobile port here!

But the Devstream was not just filled with this news. They also went deep into new systems, and content coming in The Old Peace. This includes the exact date when players can jump in!

The Old Peace Launches in Warframe on December 10th

That’s right, one day before The Game Awards next month, Digital Extremes will be launching the next major expansion-sized update, The Old Peace. The Old Peace will allow players to experience the war that started it all in Warframe. You will be exploring the moon of Tau, taking down Dax soldiers, Grineer, and Sentients alike.

In the last Devstream, we got a deep dive into one of the new game modes, Descendia. Descendia will be a weekly rotating challenge tower centred around “The Devil’s Triad”. The Devils Triad will consist of 3 characters: Roathe, Lyon, and Marie. They are all new Protoframes that will play a major role in the update. Descendia is the crux of this part of the update, with randomised challenges and time sensitivity at the heart of it all.

The same can then be said for the second part of the update, the Operator and the Perita Rebellion. This new game mode will most likely be even more stressful for hardcore players and new players alike.

What to Expect from the Perita Rebellion

The Perita Rebellion will be a new game mode that has 3 separate missions to take on. All 3 will take place at different points in the war of The Old Peace, with 3 different boss fights at the end. Each mission will be strictly 12 minutes long before the boss fight triggers. During that period, players will need to complete various objectives to grow in power before fighting the boss of that mission. However, these objectives will be randomised, and there will be mini-bosses that spawn to take you down.

The mini-bosses will be from the prime vanguard. The boss shown during the devstream was (my love) Ember prime. This will no doubt add a layer of complexity to the narrative. But speaking of bosses, the boss that was shown at the end of the mission was a new mixed platform fight against Hunhullus, the giant Sentient. They showed gameplay of breaking parts off him to deal damage, and then switched to Archwing for the final part of the fight.

Some key details to take note of during the small demo were the showing off of grappling hook gameplay and the Corpus. The grappling hook looks very dynamic, to the point of destroying a grineer dropship when you grapple to it. You will also be locked into one focus school for the entire mission. The launch of The Old Peace will bring with it a new clan operation called the “Blood of Perita”. The Blood of Perita will bring with it new alerts, a new title for players to earn, and a mix of new and old cosmetics, including an evolving armor set and a Warhammer 40k-looking Syandana. This event launches on December 16th.

All of this is in service of the new Focus expansion and the Tauron strike system.

New Details on the Focus Expansion for Warframe

The new Focus expansion will come in 3 parts. Alongside the Operator and Drifter getting a visual overhaul, there will be a massive overhaul to the Focus system. There will be new nodes in each school to unlock that will require more Focus (so bank now while you can!).

There will also be a new mod screen for the Operator and Drifter. This screen will be focused on the new Tauron strike ultimates. You will be able to use new 25 new mods and Focus school upgrades to power up the Tauron strikes. The Tauron strikes are unlocked with two methods. You will need to speak to members of The Devils Triad to unlock certain ones. While also needing to spend resources obtained through the Perita Rebellion to acquire them.

The new Tauron strikes are as follows for each school:

  • Naramon is the giant slash from The Old Peace gameplay demo.
  • Unairu is a giant hammer smash.
  • Vazarin is a giant staff wave.
  • Madurai is a giant bow shot.
  • And Zenurik is a modestly sized book beam.

Finally, they showed off the rest of what to expect with Uriel, including his signature weapon.

How Uriel Works in The Old Peace

Uriel is going to be the “Devil” warframe. He was designed by the now departed Mike “Mynki” Brennan. Mike designed not only Uriel, but the Technocyte Coda, the Prime design language, and even the original game logo. As such, his gameplay design and themes are being knocked out of the park to honor the final warframe designed by one of their most important artists.

His abilities are as follows:

  • Uriel’s passive is centered around his 3 demons. One will chain enemies to share damage between them. Another will hug an enemy and cause them to drop orbs and damage hazards around. And the last one goes to enemies to pillage them for a rune to give extra fire rate and fire damage for Uriels weapons.
  • His first ability will send him flying through the air and allow for firing mid-flight.
  • His second ability heals Uriel and his demons.
  • The third ability will rip out the souls of enemies to deal damage in a cone in front of Uriel with a unique synergy to his first ability.
  • And finally, his ultimate ability sends a giant wave of fire and brimstone to enemies in an area for massive damage output.

He will also come with the game’s first-ever Bayonet weapon. The “Vinquibus” Bayonet weapon will take both the primary and melee slots in a given loadout. The weapon will also be modded separately for both slots. It will also share forma polarities, so plan accordingly. This weapon will be crit-based as well, so plan for Hunter Munitions in that primary slot.

The New Game Modes Will be Available to New Players in Warframe

One bit of news from Devstream 191 was the announcement that Digital Extremes will allow both Descendia and the Perita Rebellion to be available to new players. If they have not unlocked them from doing The Old Peace quest, a player who does can shepherd them to and through the game modes. While this sounds good on paper, as the new game modes look very exciting, the lack of endgame viability that a new player has will put their team at a disadvantage, on top of the spoilers that these players will encounter. It is a decision that is going to be controversial for very understandable reasons.

Outside of all of this, the next Prime warframe is coming to the game. It is, of course, Gyre, with the Alternox and Kestrel Prime. The Kestrel is a surprise, but a welcome one to be sure!

Digital Extremes is Coming to PAX East Next Year!

They also announced during the stream that they will be attending PAX East. Digital Extremes has done many exciting Devstreams and TennoVIP events at the venue. Both the possible Devstream they will be hosting at the event on the 28th of March and the TennoVIP the day before are not to be missed by any Tenno attending PAX East this year. (speaking from experience!)

But these are all of the highlights from Devstream 191 for Warframe. If you would like to watch the stream for any minute details and shenanigans, you can find it down below!
