In a surprise drop for the Soulframe community, Digital Extremes has launched a new Preludes update that sets the stage for the biggest change coming in their next major Preludes update. Preludes 14.5, “Ode’n Tempers” brings with it an exciting change tied to a new weapon type, new encounters, points-of-interest, swimming, and an interesting change to the already reworked “Virtue” system. Here is everything you need to know about this new update if you are in the pre-alpha Preludes program.
Details on Preludes 14.5 for Soulframe
Preludes 14.5 for Soulframe introduces quite a few changes to the game. One that needs to be talked about first is the introduction of the new heavy mace in the game. Yes, it is a new weapon, but it is also one that can be acquired without needing to craft it. Certain enemies and a world boss can drop it, and it will also come with random modifiers on it.

This is in direct contrast to the normal loot system in the game, where everything needs to be crafted. In Preludes 15, they will be making presumably all weapons drop like this new heavy mace, and will allow for fans of looter shooters to get their fix, instead of needing to craft everything. It is unknown at this time how this system will affect armor or talismans.
Another big change is how Virtues will be modified for builds. Now, instead of prisms that are equipped as you can see below, you can now use a scaling slider feature that costs a brand new currency you get from world bosses or certain Sieges, like the Siege of Curlail.

Finally, there were a handful of other changes and features. Such as inventory being tied to everything, instead of separate weapon and pact capacity. You can now swim in Soulframe (which is admittedly cool to see). As well as new points of interest and encounters in the world. It is described pretty vaguely, but please stay tuned for one of our usual critiques for this mini-update. You can find all of the details for this update right here.
