PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett To Use Same Specced CPU

We finally know that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett are releasing next year. This has been officially confirmed by both Sony and Microsoft. We have also learned that both consoles will use NAVI and ZEN 2 based chips. But using the same architecture doesn’t mean the same specs and performance level. So we still don’t know for sure how powerful these consoles will be. However, a well know tech YouTuber Red Gaming Tech dropped interesting info on the CPU for both consoles. He claims that both will use a pretty much identically specced CPU.

“In the first of today’s two exclusives, I was told that the PS5 has slightly worst ray tracing capabilities than the Xbox Scarlett, though both consoles do have a similar zen2+ CPU (so, it’s without zen 3 features but tweaked for lower latency and better power optimization). “

It looks like we will get a fully customized CPU with some console optimizations that should allow for great performance but also low power draw and low temperatures.

It’s also worth mentioning that Japanese outlet Famitsu told us that PlayStation 5 will utilize 8 Zen 2 based cores with 2 threads per core. So going by RedGamingTech leak Xbox Scarlett should also ship with 8 core and 16 threads CPU.

If previous leaks about 3.2 GHz clock speeds are also true these consoles should really offer great CPU performance. So MS and Sony claims of 120 FPS gaming might actually be possible.

The wait is not long. We are less than a year from launch and official specs should be confirmed by middle of next year.
