PSVR exclusive live service FPS Firewall: Zero Hour is one of the most popular games on the platform. Also, a game that is considered to be one of the best exclusive PlayStation shooters. This summer Firewall: Zero Hour entered its tenth and final season. This left fans wondering what was next with the upcoming PS VR2 headset.
The team teased a countdown to an August 28th event, where they promised to share a “big announcement.” Today came and went with no news. Yet the team is alluding to external partners at play. Over on the Twitter account, developers First Contact Entertainment shared a happy birthday video along with the following update.
“We want to thank every Firewall player for supporting & helping us make a game we’re truly proud of. It’s been an amazing 4 years filled with stories that you helped us tell. We hoped to share some exciting news with you today, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we are not able to, at this time. We anticipate only a short delay before we are able to let everyone know what we have been up to.”
What Does This Mean For Firewall: Zero Hour and PS VR2?
Just speculating, it seems as if their announcement will become a part of something bigger. There have been rumors of a September PlayStation Showcase. Not to be forgotten, some of PlayStation’s social media accounts Tweeted the hardware’s release window. A Tweet in what appears to be an error as the US account has yet to follow suit over a week later.
PlayStation 5 console pre-orders opened 90 days before the console’s release. We expect Sony to do similar, if not increase that length. With a release window of “Early 2023” PS VR2 headsets will open sometime between October 2022 and January 2023. With that in mind, Sony will need to showcase it’s 20 or so launch window games soon. We fully expect First Contact Entertainment to be a part of that group in some capacity. With today’s tease, it sounds like a sequel to Firewall: Zero Hour is the game they will bring to PS VR2.
