Like a Dragon: Yakuza TV Show Coming This Fall
No doubt the success of the Fallout TV series has shown resounding demand for video game TV adaptions. It’s clear that Amazon will try to beat out its competitors and go full in with this strategy. By way of Amazon MGM Studios, Like a Dragon: Yakuza is getting the full TV adoption treatment.
Take Masaharu (“100 Yen Love”) and Takimoto Kengo (“Kamen Teacher”) and stars Takeuchi Ryoma (multiple “Kamen Rider” titles) as the lead character, Kiryu Kazuma.
Amazon will produce six episodes and will be within the crime-suspense-action genre. The show will be directed by Take Masaharu, who directed 100 Yen Love, while Takeuchi Ryoma (Kamen Rider) will star as the titular Kiryu Kazuma.
Amazon will release Like a Dragon: Yakuza episodes in two batches. First on October 25, the on November 1. As expected, the show will be in Japanese with English dubbing available along with subtitles in over 30 languages.
About the TV Show
Like a Dragon: Yakuza will be set during two distinct time periods: 1995 and 2005. The show will follow the childhood and consequences of Kiryu Kazuma’s descent into the underworld of Japanese organized crime. Despite being a notorious gangster, Kazuma has a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.
The show looks like it will be faithful to its video game source material. Even though the game wrapped up Kazuma’s storyline, the torch passed onto the impressive, yet comical, Ichiban.
