Exoprimal has been out for a little under a week and has been met with an interesting reception. At first glance, this team-based dinosaur shooter with player vs player elements can seem barren on the surface. Mostly due to the fact that when you load into the game, you see a singular game mode option. Obviously, to anyone who either spent full price on the game or is playing it through Xbox Game Pass, this can seem troubling considering most live services launch almost in a beta-like state.
This is, of course, very false. Exoprimal does have the singular game mode, but it is packed with so much variety, that playing one or two matches can not and will not offer the full experience. This is because the game requires you to play matches well into the tens, or twenties. Considering, as you play through the game, you are rewarded with story progression. With this story progression, you are given much more than you initially bargained for.
Actually Play Exoprimal As You Would Any Other Game
I had the misconception above as I started it, due to the fact that I am a survivor of many beta-like launches for full-price video games. Such as the Destiny titles, or Overwatch for that matter. The truth about Exoprimal though, is that it requires playing it as you would any other title. Considering the fact that while you progress through the game’s story by playing more matches. You will unlock the following:
- More Dinosaurs, so much so that it will start to become overwhelming.
- Various new objectives throughout standard matches.
- Exciting new final objectives.
- Story-based missions that will interrupt the flow of a match to transport both teams to fight together in a raid-boss-like encounter.
- Exosuit improvement modules to carve out unique playstyles.
- And Player vs Environment gauntlets where both teams have to work together to take down multiple incredibly tough encounters.
When you first boot up Exoprimal, you might not think there is much else to the game. But as I continue to play the game, I continue to be surprised match after match, never running into similar runs nearly sixty matches in. So if you have been on the fence about this title due to conflicting information from those who dropped the game after one or two matches. Rest assured, that there is a lot to experience, just have to treat it like you would any other game.
