How To Dock Your Spaceship In Starfield

Starfield is a massive and expansive game filled to the brim with different mechanics and features. It can often be overwhelming to try and keep track of different mechanics. One of the most basic but sometimes confusing mechanics in Starfield is docking your ship. If you are struggling to do this during the early part of your journey here is a quick guide to get you docking and undocking your ship in no time.

1. Start The Old Neighbourhood Quest In Starfield

One of the first and most straightforward moments to dock your ship presents itself during “The Old Neighbourhood” mission for the Constellation faction. This is one of the first main missions of Starfield, and while you may be eager to get out and start exploring on your own. It is definitely worth doing some of the early Constellation missions before you really start to dig into exploring the vast universe that’s ahead of you. You will trigger this mission after entering the Lodge for the first time. Then during The Old Neighbourhood quest, you will reach a step in which you are tasked with docking with the Nova Galatic Staryard.

2. Approaching The Staryard

After you come out of your fast travel jump, you will have the Nova Galatic Staryard directly in front of you. You will receive some brief dialogue from Sarah in regard to the task ahead. Then you will get a prompt as seen in the screenshot above. The game will tell you vaguely to select the ship in your HUD and then to be close enough to the ship so that the dock prompt will appear.

Selecting the ship in your hud is way simpler than you might think. Simply target the Staryard with your weapon systems then press the (A) button on an Xbox controller. This will then select the Staryard in your hud, then you will need to approach the station with your ship. Once you get within 500 meters of the Staryard a prompt will appear for you to dock the ship using the (X) button. Once you press and hold (X) on the prompt it will cue a cinematic of your ship docking. Then you will be able to disembark your ship and begin to explore the inside of the Staryard.

Now you know how to dock your ship in Starfield. Now get out there and start exploring all of the planets and starships that you can.
