The Game Awards 2023 Announcement Round Up

The Game Awards are back. A one-night-only celebration of all things gaming live from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Today, December 7th, the best games from the year will be recognized and a ton of game announcements will be made. With that, here is everything that was announced at The Game Awards 2023.

Brothers A Tale of Two Sons Remake

The iconic co-op game where you control a set of brothers using two sticks in unison returns for a remake for the ground up on modern platforms. It is set for launch in February 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. 

Pony Island 2: Panda Circus

A surprise sequel to the PC cult indie gem Pony Island is coming to all platforms in 2025. It continues the genre blending chaos from the original. 

The Rise of the Golden Idol

This popular indie series is getting a new installment, this time launching on consoles and PC at the same time sometime in 2024.

Usual June

This stylized action/adventure game got announced, showing a promising narrative and Spider-Verse like visuals. The game releases in 2025.

Arknights Endfield Trailer

Popular mobile/PC game Arknights had a trailer showing off new content coming to the game in the near future. 

The Matchless Kung Fu

This PC announcement presents a game that has a mixture of various elements coming together in a stylish, almost hand-painted look. Decision making, building and stealth seem to be key pillars in this title’s gameplay loop. It will be released in 2024. 

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

A new trailer for the isometric CRPG from Owlcat games is now out on Xbox Series X/S platforms, showing the game running on the consoles for the first time. 

Assassin Creed Nexus

Allowing you to finally be in the role of iconic characters from the Assassin’s Creed universe from a first person perspective, this new VR release is out now on Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro platforms today. 

Harmonium The Musical

This Xbox Game Pass and Netflix Games release is coming in the future, featuring a young girl exploring a musical world with a stunning art direction and strong music. It leans into the life experiences of the protagonist, who is deaf, to paint a vivid world full of imagination and wonder. 

Windblown

From the makers of Dead Cells comes the announcement of a three player top-down co-op action game. It has the same spirit and tone from Dead Cells but with a new 3D art style. Coming to PC Early access in 2024. 

Thrasher

From the makers of Thumper, comes a new experience built for VR devices. Having a striking art style and having strong sound design, this upcoming release for 2024 seemingly offers an engaging VR experience. 

Persona 3 Reload Trailer

Xbox and Atlus have a new trailer for the upcoming Persona 3 Reload, focusing on the non-party member social links included in the game. In addition, gameplay showing Tartarus exploration and new music for the remake was also shown. 

Dave the Diver X Dredge 

Two of 2023’s popular sea-faired indie releases get a new collaboration. 

World of Goo 2

The sequel to the indie gem got announced, showing off more of the charming tone and wit from the original game. It’s releasing in 2024.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

This new IP from the makers of Persona 3-5 has a new trailer, showing off more of it’s impressive world and mechanics. The familiar turn-based combat and social link-elements return but new wrinkles such as action combat and a sudo-open world are present. It’s still inbound for a Fall 2024 release on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. 

Exodus 

This CGI trailer shows a very Returnal-esc looking release, featuring Mathew Mcconaughey voicing/acting in a major role in the game. Gameplay is a third person shooter with co-op elements. It’s releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2024. 

God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla 

A free DLC content update focused on Kratos fighting waves of enemies from the base Ragnarok game is coming very soon, releasing on December 12th. The story seems to take place after the base game, with Kratos alone and his son nowhere in sight. 

Big Walk by House House

From the makers of United Goose Game, comes a first person exploration game where duck-like humanoids hang out and explore the world around them. Seems to have the charming tone from their prior game and is going for a slightly more detailed art style. 

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

A new trailer came out for this latest installment in this dormant series, showing off its story, platforming and combat systems. A free demo is releasing on January 11th, 2024. 

Hellblade 2 Combat Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming Hellblade 2 is shown off, finally presenting action and combat. Trailer seems to be all in-engine as well. The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2024. 

Kemuri

Coming back to the Game Awards stage, Nakamura, former Tango Gameworks developer, announces a new game from her studio Unseen. Not sure how to quote but this is a quote from a press release on VGC.

“Kemuri summons you into a realm where the unpredictable meets the extraordinary in an urban jungle where mysterious creatures, yokai, hide amongst the population,” the game’s description reads.

“Become a Yokai Hunter and use your Fox Window to unravel the mysteries of the city and bring balance to the world.

“Dive into a thrilling adventure alone or with friends, hunt yokai in style, collect their powers and face even greater challenges. Where there are sightings of Kemuri, yokai are sure to follow. The only question that remains is: How will you Hunt the Unseen?”

No platforms or dates for the project have been announced. 

No Rest for the Wicked

Moon Studios returns with a top-down action/RPG game, keeping their amazing art direction and emotional storytelling from the Ori series. It’s coming out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2024. 

Super Surge

Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi, and more are incoming as part of the fabled ‘Super Game’ that has been heavily rumored. No date or platforms were given on the projects. 

Dragon Ball Z Sparking! Zero

Seeing a return to the popular Budokai Tenkaichi series, this new game got announced at the Game Awards. The trailed showed off iconic Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super characters clashing in 3D arenas, sporting visuals similar to the recent Dragon Ball Fighters Z. It’s coming out on PlayStation 5, Series X/S and PC sometime in 2024. 

The Casting of Frank Stone 

In a collaboration between Behavior Studios and Supermassive Games, comes a single player horror experience set in the world of Dead by Daylight

Visions of Mana 

Square Enix announces a new installment in the Mana series, showing off action combat and a beautifully stylized world. It’s releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, PC and Windows 2024. 

Fortnite X Rocket League: Rocket Racing

Two of the most popular free-to-play online games collide with the release of Rocket Racing, showing off arcadey racing in the Fortnite universe. The game launches on the Fortnite platform on December 8th on all platforms. 

Rise of the Ronin

New trailer of Team Ninja’s PlayStation 5 exclusive was shown, showing off more of its world and combat. It is launching March 22nd, 2024. 

OD

Kojima reveals his project with Xbox Game Studios. Using cloud technology, Kojima described it as a melding of media and gameplay. Horror visionary Jordan Peel is involved with the project as well.  

Jurassic Park: Survival 

A new first-person action/horror game from Saber Interactive is announced, showing a trailer that mixes real-time gameplay and CGI scenes. It’s coming out in 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series platforms and PC. 

Black Myth Wu Kong

A new trailer for this promising upcoming action/adventure souls-like was revealed, giving more insight to the fascinating world players will have to overcome. The trailers ends with confirmation that the game will be coming out on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Steam on August 20th, 2024

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League 

New story trailer for the upcoming third person co-op shooter was shown off, showing off more story for the promising follow up to Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham Knight

Warframe: Whispers in the Walls 

A new expansion is incoming to the popular live service game from Digital Extremes, showing off what appears to be new enemy classes and weapons. It is launching on all platforms on December 13th, 2023.

Banishers: Ghost of New Eden

The upcoming action/RPG from Focus Home Entertainment got had a new trailer at the Game Awards, announcing a Febuary 13th, 2024 release date for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms. 

“Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a horror action-adventure RPG developed by DON’T NOD. Players will follow the story of two ghost hunters as they make decisions leaving heavy consequences to the overall story. Solve chilling cases and battle the forces of the supernatural with one ghost hunter Antea’s spiritual powers and the other ghost hunter Red’s arsenal. Take a look at the latest gameplay overview trailer with the English voices of the ghost hunters: Russ Bain and Amaka Okafor, accompanied by the Head of Narration for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Stéphane Beauverger as they show off some of the big consequences players will face in the game.” -Press Release

Ready or Not 

New announcement from Void Entertainment was revealed at the Game Awards, presenting a cinematic trailer showing off what looked to be tactical based third person shooting. The game is set for release on Steam in a 1.0 state sometime in December 13th, 2024. 

Tales of Kenzera Zau

A new EA Originals project got announced, being a 2D action/adventure having an emotional story and switching between two different masks for combat and exploration. It is coming out on all platforms April 23, 2024.

The First Berserker: Khazan

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth 

A new trailer paired with the intro theme was shown at the Game Awards, with said intro theme being played by the live orchestra itself. The gameplay presented story scenes from the upcoming action/RPG, exclusive on PlayStation 5. 

Apex Legends X Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Collaboration

A surprise collaboration got announced after the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer/music performance, showing off Apex Legends characters donning futuristic takes on the iconic FF7 designs and weapons. Collaboration launches in the future on all platforms.

Skull & Bones 

A new trailer was shown off at the Game Awards, showing more of the ship v ship combat expected from the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag-inspired multiplayer game. In addition to a new trailer, Ubisoft also uploaded a ten minute deep-dive, going over more about the game’s systems. 

Marvel’s Blade

Arkane Lyon announced Marvel’s Blade, the first ever superhero game exclusive from Xbox and Bethesda Game Studios. The trailer showed off the iconic hero Blade getting a close shave, getting ready to fight vampires. Art style looks similar to Deathloop and Dishonored. It’s confirmed to be a third-person action/adventure game. 

Last Sentinel 

Lightspeed Studios, a studio composed of former Rockstar developers, announced Last Sentinel. The trailers show a futuristic world where the ‘demon’ saves a group of humanoids who are being hunted down. 

The First Descendant 

Nexon revealed a new third person shooter, showing off an impressive CGI trailer presenting. The game is set for release Summer 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2

GTFO: Work Together or Die

The long running multiplayer shooter finally comes to a close on December 7th, with some story content and gameplay being show off. GTFO has been on-going since 2019 in early access on PC.

Den of Wolves

The latest project from the studio behind GTFO, presenting a dark tone and moody atmosphere with an impressive CGI trailer. 

Exoborne

Tactical open world shooter, focused on using special suits to explore a ravaged world. It’s being made by former developers from The Division

Asgards Wrath 2

Sanzaru Games and Meta’s latest VR effort, coming to Meta Quest 3. Using possession, your character fights through colorful worlds to defeat Loki. Gameplay is a mixture of exploration and combat. The game is launching on Meta Quest 3 on December 15th. 

Fallout TV Show 

A trailer for the upcoming Fallout show was revealed, showing iconic landmarks and elements from Fallout 4. It comes to Amazon Prime in 2024. Some of the actors from the show got on stage to announce the winner for best adaptation, even highlighting Todd Howard in the crowd.

Paila

New trailer for the Animal Crossing meets Breath of the Wild game was shown off, coming to the Nintendo Switch this December. 

No Man’s Sky Evolution Trailer

Highlight trailer, showing off prior updates and promising of future content for 2024 was shown off. 

Light No Fire

Hello Games, makers of No Man’s Sky, announced Light No Fire. It features up to four players exploring a fantasy Earth, set in both third and first person. The gameplay shows a mixture of fighting, flying mounts and more. Visually it looks more realistic than No Man’s Sky. No date or platforms were announced. 

Stormgate 

A new trailer was revealed, showing more of the story and world made by former Starcraft developers. We also see real-time gameplay in addition to CGI. 

Guilty Gear Strive DLC 

A new fighter and a 3v3 mode got announced, with the former releasing today and the later coming in 2024.  

Final Fantasy 16 DLC: Echoes of the Fallen & The Rising Tide

Two new DLC expansions, taking place before the final battle come to one of 2023’s best Action games. Echoes of the Fallen releases today, while The Rising Tide releases in 2024 with it seemingly promising another epic Eikon v Eikon. 

The Finals

The upcoming first-person shooter from former Battlefield developers reveal the first Season of their game. The trailer shows off the massive environmental destruction and fast action. The game officially launches today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. 

Monster Hunter Wilds

The next installment in the Monster Hunter franchise got announced, showing off a mixture of mechanics from World and Rise. It will be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The next update on Wilds will come in Summer 2024. 

Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Version

The 2023 Game of the Year winner finally is out now on Xbox Series X and S platforms following months of delays. It is not a day-one Game Pass release and it’s priced at $69.99 on the Xbox store page, with the physical release releasing in 2024.
