Welcome to the Town Crier. Every week we look at what was covered at LordsofGaming.net and touch on what we missed. With the end of the year upon us, we had a surprisingly busy week. Let’s start with the expected. Fortnite released a patch on Monday. And that was about it for the expected.
News Round-up Highlights: Sony Hacked, More Studio Closures, Twitch Leaves South Korea
Next, we go to the unexpected and disheartening. Twitch leaves Korea on 27 February 2024. Streaming costs have risen above what Twitch can sustain there.
If you haven’t heard, then it pains me to inform you of the death of voice actor James McCaffrey. He voiced the titular Max Payne and most recently Alex Casey in Alan Wake II.
The bad news continued with the closure of the Versus Evil publishing studio. The entire team was laid off just days before Christmas.
Versus Evil published smash hits like The Banner Saga and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. They have been a publisher since 2013. They were purchased by TinyBuild in November of 2021. We wish all affected quick recovery and gainful employment.
Sony Studio Insomniac was hit with an information dump of 1.3 million files, including employee personal information.
There were a few pleasant surprises this week as well. We had a surprise reveal of some of Marvel’s Blade concept art. It is likely still far from release, but at least the look and feel of the concept art is excellent.
We also received an update from Bethesda about Starfield. That just about rounds out the major events of the week. Be safe and see you next week!
