Spreading Democracy – Helldivers 2 Might Come to Xbox Platforms (Rumor)
When 2024 kicked off, many didn’t expect Helldivers 2 to deliver on much. Sony themselves weren’t marketing the title like their bigger brands and there was no early access/beta. But the game launched to great success on PlayStation 5 and PC in February 2024.
The game’s Starship Troopers meets Halo ODST energy appealed to many, being one of the first successful multiplayer games from PlayStation since the PlayStation 3 era.
And the war for democracy might be spreading to green shores, with rumblings of an Xbox version being in development.
Xbox Players, Join the Fight! – Helldivers 2 Rumored for Xbox
As reported on by Twisted Voxel, they have said the following;
Speaking during the latest episode of The Xbox Era Podcast, co-host Shpeshal Nick mentioned that there are some very early discussions on-going regarding the possibility of Helldivers 2 being released on Xbox Series X|S. He believes that the current PlayStation boss is a little more open to “certain things”, hinting at the idea of experimenting with multiplatform console releases beyond just MLB The Show titles and Bungie’s future releases.
Shooters are very much one of Xbox’s defining genres. So Xbox getting a PlayStation shooter is a great match.
It is also worth noting they clarified this might not be happening;
Nick clarified that this doesn’t guarantee that Helldivers 2 will arrive on Xbox Series X|S. All he’s heard at this point is that there are preliminary discussions going on in this regard at Sony Interactive Entertainment. The talks could end up falling to pieces and they may not come to an agreement in the end. The podcast members all agreed that Helldivers 2 is a very “Xbox feeling” game, and that it would find success on the platform.
We will report on this story as it develops.
Overall Thoughts
I only recently dabbled with Helldivers 2 and even as someone who isn’t much of a shooter fan, I enjoyed my time with the game. Great shooting mechanics, a real sense of ‘grit’ (you can actually kill your teammates by accident), and a satirical tone.
It all comes together and makes for a great experience. But will you join PlayStation and PC players in the fight when the boats show up on Xbox shores? Let us know in the comments below!
