While some Japanese role playing franchises continue to skip the Xbox platform, one hasn’t. Since 2022, the Persona series has expanded beyond the PlayStation ecosystem and found new homes on PC, Switch, and Xbox. This seemingly continues with the ever-rumored Persona 6.
Multiplatform Release for Persona 6 Reported
Since even before the release of Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable on Xbox and other platforms, insiders have not had a clear answer regarding where the franchise’s next effort will release on. NatetheHate originally commented that Persona 6 might be a PlayStation exclusive, not unlike the mainline Final Fantasy releases.
However, this has changed, with this very same insider claiming Persona 6 will be releasing on Xbox at launch. Adding to this report, other insiders not only have backed up this claim but also stated the title will be released on multiple platforms.
Even the ever-rumored Switch 2 will be getting Persona 6, alongside Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 3 Reload. This is backed up by Atlus/SEGA insider Midori, who has been correct about SEGA/Atlus leaks.
Further supporting these reports, is SEGA/Atlus themselves admitting to Persona as a franchise being more multiplatform recently.
Thoughts on Rumor
Persona as a pillar JRPG franchise only has earned such growth due to being on more platforms. When Persona 5 Royal came to Xbox in 2022, Xbox celebrated this as if the game was a new release. It is also worth noting that Persona 3 Reload broke franchise records sales-wise, with the title being the first proper new JRPG installment in the series since Persona 5 Royal. The game was a multiplatform launch.
Atlus and SEGA wanting to expand Persona is a wise decision and hopefully, one other publisher take note of it.
