Despite a late announcement, Sony is kicking off the 2024 summer showcase season with its PlayStation State of Play. The showcase will unveil what PlayStation’s roadmap will be for the next 12 months. Check out the round-up of all the exciting new announcements from the PlayStation State of Play below.

Concord from Firewalk Studios

Concord is a brand new hero shooter that will look to challenge Marathon as the new kid on the block. A stylish first-person shooter, definitely has an uphill battle after Overwatch 2 failed to catch on. The gameplay will be 5v5 and is the debut title from Firewalk Studios.  Pre-Orders start June 6, 2024 and the game will launch on August 23rd, 2024.

God of War: Ragnarok Comes to PC

This was not so much an announcement as a long anticipated confirmation. The sequel to God of War (2018) finally arrives on PC on September 19th, 2024. This furthers Sony’s ambitions in the PC space. Check out our review of the recent free DLC God of War: Valhalla, which was a thrilling epilogue to Ragnarok.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Dynasty Warriors is a franchise that just keeps on rolling out new installments every generation. This next-gen Musou title will bring its trademark hack and slash gameplay with epic battles to the PlayStation 5.

Infinity Nikki

Perhaps the most unique title on display during the Showcase was Infinity Nikki from Papergames. Infinity Nikki is an open world platformer/adventure game with heavy character customization. The gameplay and world are reminiscent of Klonoa mixed with a more wholesome Bayonetta. The game will have a playtest in Q3 2024 and is expected to release in 2025.

Ballad of Antara from TipsWorks Studio

Ballad of Antara blends a gorgeous fantasy landscapes with a Soul-like RPG combat system. The game will be free-to-play and feature cooperative multiplayer. Players will traverse between two worlds as they seek to unravel the mysteries at the heart of the world.

Skydance’s BEHEMOTH (PSVR2)

Not to be left out, Sony launched into a whole segment of their show based on PSVR2. While the hardware has not exactly set the world on fire n terms of sales, it is good to see Sony continue to support it. Behemoth isa dark fantasy adventure filled with giant creatures that really impart a sense of scale. The game looks like a spiritual successor to the old Might and Magic games and looks to make good use of the platform with bow mechanics.

Alien Rogue Incursion (PSVR2)

Alien is a franchise that continues an excellent streak in gaming especially when it comes to titles that leverage the horror aspects of the universe. Alien: Rogue Incursion was the second PSVR2 title to be shown and looks to bring all the atmospherics of the franchise to bear.

Marvel Rivals

The latest “super” hero shooter, developed by NetEase, brought unexpected delight and excitement for PC players during the alpha test. Now, Marvel Rivals aims to bring more players with a closed beta test for PS5 owners in July. Subsequently, players unlock the exclusive Scarlet Spider costume for Spider-Man during the beta.

Additionally, the trailer showcased several gameplay mechanics setting them apart within the genre. Heroes unite together to stop great evils quite frequently in comic stories. Here, players can synergize their attacks with one another to decimate the battlefield. Furthermore, certain structures are destructible around the map.

Buildings, walls, and more allow players to capitalize on changing the battle to their advantage. Team-Up attacks exude a wide area of carnage to break through chokes or create new cover from falling debris. Lastly, the trailer ended with a small tease. This figure appears to be Black Panther standing in a field of the heart-shaped flower known to grant Panthers their powers. Players should look forward to seeing a future hero showcase trailer on the Black Panther.

Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet is a brand new open world action adventure RPG based on Chinese fantasy. It also appears to draw inspiration from Lone Wolf and Cub and Sekiro.

Until Dawn Remaster

Until Dawn has languished as a franchise for the better part of the last half-decade. Sony announced a remaster of the original 2015 title built in Unreal Engine 5. The game will launch on PC and PS5 in the Fall.

Path of Exile 2

A sequel to the 2013 hit online RPG, Path of Exile 2 continued Sony’s focus on online multiplayer focused titles. This free to play, isometric action RPG was announced for consoles. It will include Couch Co-op and will have Cross Play and Cross Progression. Early access launches in late 2024.

Silent Hill 2

The biggest announcement of the PlayStation State of Play by far was that of Silent Hill 2. Unfortunately details of the game leaked online ahead of the official announcement, but that hasn’t stopped the hype. Silent Hill 2 will launch October 8th, 2024.

Monster Hunter Wilds

The PlayStation State of Play was determined to go out with a bang and its last two titles certainly accomplished that. Monster Hunter Wilds is poised to be probably the most successful title announced at the Showcase. This new game in one of the world’smost successful franchises brings bigger monsters to hunt and brand new weapons to bear.

Astro Bot

In the most fun announcement of the PlayStation State of Play, Astro Bot makes his triumphant return. In a curious move though, the game does not seem to be in PSVR2. However, the colorful, innovative platformer looks to bring all its charm to bear on the PS5 when it launches on September 6th.
