Despite a late announcement, Sony kicked off the 2024 summer showcase season with its State of Play. The showcase unveiled what PlayStation’s roadmap will be for the next 12 months. To kick off the reveals, Firewalk Studios showed a deep look at its multiplayer shooter, Concord.
PlayStation Revealed Firewalk’s Project in Full
This opener got two parts. First, a cinematic scene and a gameplay deep dive. We open on Crater City. Job: Intercept Blue Buddy. Northstar Crew and Rexxus Crew both accepted the offer.
The Northstar Crew of Star Child, Haymar, Lennox, Vale, 1-Off, and more dodge Rexxus’ gunfire and fall from scaffolding to steal back a notable package and return it to their ship. Each show off unique skills related to their sizes and loadouts.
This felt very similar to Overwatch’s cinematic shorts from its initial launch period.
As the show pivoted to the multiplayer trailer, we got more details. First, these crews are “Free Gunners” or crews of mercenaries. They fight in five on five matchups in gameplay that blends Overwatch’s hero-based variety with Destiny’s gunplay and movement.
A brief shot of the character select screen showed a minimum of sixteen characters to play with. Those characters will feature in weekly stories that Firewalk plans to develop and showcase over time.
A pre-order exclusive beta will launch in July on PS5 and PC, and Concord launches in full on August 23rd of this year.
