Astro Bot Details from the State of Play

It is safe to assume that Astro Bot stole the show, while also being a surprise announcement. Similarly to how Tango Gameworks final title Hi-Fi Rush did at the Microsoft Gaming Developer Direct last year.

The game looks expansive, with a classic PlayStation feel from its visuals to the gameplay style. For those who might have played the Astro’s Playroom that launched with the PlayStation 5, you can expect the following from the official PlayStation blog, as broken down by Shinobi602 on Twitter:

Explore 6 galaxies and 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew.

Each planet is unique including lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes, etc 15 new abilities that take advantage of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.

Barkster: Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass.

Twin-Frog Gloves: Long-range punching and the ability to swing.

Giant Sponge: Lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge Over 70 new enemies, including massive bosses at the end of each galaxy like the cobra queen Lady Venomara (seen in the trailer).

Defeating each boss uncovers a “wonderful secret” that won’t be spoiled Die-and-retry levels for extra challenge.

Astro will “reunite with many friends from the PlayStation universe”, teases they may play a bigger role in the game.

Astro Bot looks to be a massive and varied adventure. Similarly to Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart, but bigger. Some of the cameos mentioned come from bigger games like God of War, and Uncharted. To smaller titles like Journey and even older franchises like PaRappa the Rapper.

Currently there is no price listed for Astro Bot. But it may be the standard $69.99, and the game will launch on September 6th exclusively for the PlayStation 5. With Pre-orders opening on June 7th.
