While rumblings for an Astro’s Playroom sequel have been in the air prior, more info has come out as of late. Thanks to recent reports, this new Astro Bot game will be announced soon.

Where Will the Astro Bot Reveal Happen?

Dealabs recently shared a report covering their information on the upcoming Astro’s Playroom sequel;

The most important information available is related to the date of announcement of the game. Indeed, we believe that the announcement of this new game should be made in 15 days as well.

This lines up with reports that Jeff Grub and Nick of Xbox Era have stated, with a PlayStation State of Play or Showcase happening in May 2024.

Information on Astro’s Playroom Sequel

Dealab’s report also broke down some information on the game, describing the following;

Among other information we have obtained, it seems that part of the game will be playable in an environment in the heart of a desert. One of the new characters in this game would be a fennec in the form of a robot that shares some resemblances to Astro.

It sounds like the title will be a full-on experience from this report, as it describes a proper level with an NPC the player can interact with. Astro’s Playroom lets you hang out with various Astro Bots that are cosplayed as iconic PlayStation legends, but seeing this expand to original characters is exciting as well.

Astro Bot Ditching PlayStation VR?

Astro Bot himself is a mascot for PlayStation hardware, so one would expect his next larger adventure would utilize the PlayStation VR2. However, based on the report from Dealab, it seems this new adventure will be PlayStation 5 only.

We still do not know the release date and on which platforms the game will be available. That said, we believe it will be released exclusively on PS5 (and not on PS VR2).

This further cements PlayStation’s abandonment of the expensive headset, though it doesn’t write off the possibility of a VR mode being included either at launch or post-launch.

Games like Resident Evil 4 received major VR modes for the PS VR2 after the launch of the standard PS5 release.

Closing Thoughts

As someone who loved Astro’s Playroom, I am beyond excited to see the team make a full experience. The PlayStation 5 is no stranger to 3D platformers, both from their teams and third parties. But Astro’s PS5 adventure is one of the few games that utilized the DualSense controller to its fullest.

It reminded me, personally, of some of Nintendo’s most experimental and creative offerings. Moves like this and partnering with studios like ShiftUp also demonstrate a willingness to invest in Japan and similar markets. Something I have been longing for following Studio Japan’s closure.
