Mania on the Small Screen – Sonic Mania Officially Released on Mobile

Sonic Mania, one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series speeds to mobile. After a successful sprint across consoles, the game is now playable on iPhones and Android.

Revealed to be coming to mobile in 2023, Sonic Mania is officially out today on iOS devices and Android platforms through Netflix Gaming. Log in using your Netflix account and you can play the port on the device of your liking. Below is footage of the mobile version in action on an iPhone 14 Pro.

Sonic Stadium shared their impressions on the mobile version, saying the following on how it plays/runs:

I decided to take some time to play the game ahead of writing this. How is it? Well, it seems fine, if barebones. I’ll admit, I don’t always have the best eye for frame rate, especially on a smaller screen. If you’ve played previous Classic Sonic mobile ports, you should know what to expect, though there is a caveat: you cannot adjust the size or position of the touch controls.

Overall Thoughts

I may be Lord Sonic, but I can only afford some of the subscription services. So, I do not have any impressions on this new version of Sonic Mania, but I am happy to see one of Sonic’s best adventures on a new platform.

While the series is thriving right now, back in 2017, it very much was not. In many ways, Sonic Mania was the north star many fans looked toward, hopeful for the series to get a proper come back following releases like Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Lost World.

I will say however, it is a shame another Sonic mobile adventure is locked to a service. First the surprisingly enjoyable Sonic Dream Team from SEGA HARDlight and now this port. Hopeful SEGA brings both products out as a paid titles in the future.
