In recent years, Xbox has ended their Showcase with a deep dive into their cornerstone release. Starfield was last year, and this year, hot off the Activision purchase, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 got the top billing. It kicked off the day with Phil Spencer confirming it will land on Game Pass at launch. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
Prepare for a Post-Cold War Era Campaign
Set in the early 90’s players step into a spy driven campaign. They play as longtime protagonist, Alex Wood’s, protegé, Troy Marshall. Woods is still around, but aged much farther since Black Ops Cold War. Alongside them, their CIA handler, Jane Harrow, tech expert, Felix Neumann, and assassin, Sevati Dumas, support them as the duo goes rogue after a bad operation.
Each mission serves a different style. Some are stealth driven in tight halls, others are expansive operations out in the desert, and some want you to break into vaults. Additionally, there are multiple ways to complete each mission, be it with violent or conversational means.
In between missions, players can spend time at the Manor as your in-Campaign base. Players can explore the base, unlock the retuning Evidence Board, and take some target practice.
Call of Duty Multiplayer Returns with a Vengeance
Call of Duty didn’t show their whole hand about Multiplayer but did give us a taste. There will be 16 brand new maps at launch: 12 classic 6v6 and 4 smaller scale Strike maps. Additionally, multiplayer progression brings out an expanded prestige system. In past games, when you hit the level max (55 for this release), you can prestige. Prestige relocks everything you earned already and makes you reunlock them.
After you do this ten times, you unlock Prestige Master. In Prestige Master, you get 1000 extra levels, with a final “classified” bonus at the end.
If co-op gameplay is more your style, round-by-round Zombies returns. Treyarch’s highly popular four player zombies mode returns to its roots. That said, its narrative continues Cold War’s “Dark Aether” storyline. Zombies will launch with two maps.
Finally, we did get mention of Warzone, but no details yet. There will be a deeper dive and a beta later this year before it’s release on October 25th.
