The Xbox Games Showcase wrapped up a little over an hour ago. Debuting so many new and exciting games from their entire development studios. It was a fantastic presentation all around, with appropriate spotlights for every game. From the announcement of Doom: The Dark Agesto the first major look at Playground Games Fable. There is much to look forward to, but what did we learn from the trailer for Fable?

A Little Bit of Origins, With a Dash of Social and Morality Systems in Fable

The trailer opened up similarly to the one from last year. Where a major character sits down and talks about the world in a way that explains what the player can expect. While also mixing in some gameplay and some combat scenarios. Including levitating some Hobbes and showing how gameplay with the Bow looks.

The character in the trailer, Humphry, went over how being a Hero will have its pros and cons, including people who love you, hate you and want to court you. As well as going over the morality system from the perspective of a quest. Where a character says “I’m a Hero… I should be able to do what I want”. Confirming that the Hero title is not just for people who do good deeds. Considering Jack of Blades in the original Fable was crowned the greatest hero despite his wicked nature.

They also showed off some honestly beautiful vistas in the trailer. From the sights stretching to Bowerstone Castle, some looks at the streets of Bowerstone itself and some shots from the forest. They even showed what seems like the empty halls of the Hero’s Guild. It was a visual feast with a lot of things that Fable fans should be able to pick up on.

But one little tease at the end raised a question. A woman with a staff and scarlet cape stood in the final shot of the trailer. Hinting at three possible angles for what this new Fable game could be. This could either be a complete reboot with the woman being a reinvented version of Scarlet Robe from the original game. Theresa from 2 and 3 using the power of the Spire to jump back in time to correct the wrongdoings of the Guild, hinting at a form of prequel with time travel mechanics. Or a farfetched theory of it being one of Jack of Blade’s companions. Considering Jack himself wore a red hood and a tattered cape that was almost singed off. Indicating that this would be a full-blown prequel long before the first Fable.

For now, until sometime in 2025, this and the last few trailers are all we have to go on. Since the game’s page on Steam offers no other hints.
