As one of gaming’s biggest crossovers, Epic Games’ Fortnite is famous for combining so many franchises. It’s the playground where iconic DC, Marvel, Disney, and other media icons battle it out across colorful maps and various game modes.

Fortnite jacks into the mainframe with Override, a video game-themed season filled with legendary collaborations that many have been asking for.

From speedy blue blurs and blasting blue bombers, many legends are joining the battlefield. Here’s everything revealed for Fortnite: Override.

What is Fortnite?

The better question to ask, to be honest, is what isn’t Fortnite. Originally released years ago as Fortnite: Save the World, the game evolved into a Battle Royal monolith that has been a huge success for Epic Games.

It expanded to include several different modes, such as Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and LEGO Fortnite. While some of these side modes have been removed over the years, one addition that has remained since its introduction is ‘No Build Mode’, allowing those put off by the resource and building elements in the main Battle Royale mode to engage with the game.

What is Fortnite: Override?

Fortnite: Override is the latest Season, focused on gaming legends coming together. The main map has expanded, including a sizable Green Hill Zone area and elements from other video games.

Speaking of hills, rolling into the battlefield is none other than Sonic the Hedgehog!

Gotta Got Fast – Sonic X Fortnite Comic

Finally coming to gaming’s biggest crossover next to Smash Brothers, SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog dashes into Fortnite. Similar to other major collaborations, the Fortnite team worked with SEGA and Sonic Team to properly introduce the series into the game.

As established in a comic created by the Sonic IDW team, Sonic and friends discover through Tails that Eggman is up to no good as usual. Wanting to stop his plans in Fortnite, Tails heads over to the Island, unaware he cannot return home.

So he asks Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow to shake hands with robotic doubles, allowing them to use their iconic abilities. These robotic doubles are taller, equipped to use the wide arsenal of gear and weapons on the Fortnite Islands.

The comic concludes with the trio falling into the battlefield, setting up an exciting collaboration.

Chaos Factor – Full Sonic X Fortnite Collab Details

As the comic establishes, the taller versions of Sonic, Shadow, and Knuckles are playable skins in Fortnite. They release on August 20th. Sonic is part of the Battle Pass, while Shadow & Knuckles are part of a bundle pack.

They include the usual emotes, backpack bling, and other goodies. And of course, Sonic and Shadow can also turn into their Super Forms via an emote, similar to other transformation emotes the Ben 10 and Dragon Ball Z skins had.

Eggman is also playable, part of his own individual bundle pack. And Tails is in on the fun too, being a Sidekick (a buddy that follows you along) and is unlockable via the Battle Pass.

From Bandicoots to Keyblades – All the Confirmed Collaborations for Override

It’s not just the Blue Blur and friends joining in on the fun, as other gaming franchises are coming to Fortnite. They include the following.

  • Joker from Persona 5 (New)
  • Lara Croft from Tomb Raider (Returning)
  • Ryu from Street Fighter (Returning)
  • Mortal Kombat Series (Returning)
  • Sora from Kingdom Hearts 2 (New)
  • Crash Bandicoot (New)
  • Spyro (Sidekick) (New)
  • Pac-Man (New)
  • Mega Man from Mega Man (New)
  • Geralt from The Witcher (Returning)
  • Master Chief from Halo (Returning)

It’s worth noting that the PlayStation collaborations, like Kratos and Aloy, are not featured in the Override event. Nintendo isn’t part of the collaboration either, though references to both Legend of Zelda and Mario Kart are evident in two of the characters.
