The first major Devstream for the Tau update in Warframe has just wrapped up. This Devstream focused a lot on what players can expect with that update, alongside some little goodies and even a retrospective on 2026 for the game. From the scope of Tau to more Hex content and even the Portau official card game, here is everything we learned from Devstream 198!
A Look Back on 2026 and Portau’s Release
They opened the Devstream by talking about the launch of the official Portau card game. There is going to be a play mat, two sets of cards, and even a cool keychain that can be yours if you preorder here. They will also be hosting a tournament tomorrow on their Twitch channel for charity.

From here, they went over a retrospective on Warframe in 2026. Detailing each update from Shadowgrapher to the Android and Nintendo Switch 2 launch to Iceblade of Narin, and how each of those updates was received and the lessons they learned from them. During this segment, they went over how Icebind, the new 6-player game mode, will be receiving matchmaking next year.
Following this, they talked about how players will be able to enjoy more content for the Hex, including the Captura dates added in The Old Peace. This was announced alongside the heirloom skin for Nezha (sorry, Excalibur fans) and Koumei’s Deluxe skin.

But seeing as this was a Devstream dedicated to Tau, they focused on showing a lot of exciting content for it, including its release window!
Tau is Coming to Warframe in December
They started by announcing that Tau will be arriving in December and may be two to three hours in length for the questline. It was emphasized that this questline will be more focused on the operator, as opposed to the Drifter.

Tau is going to be a brand new solar system, and it is going to launch with two regions. Perita from The Old Peace and Fornax. The Faction for Perita will be called the Cleaving Glaive, and will be filled with old Dax Anarchists that have evolved in the time since The Old Peace. These two locations will have 6 new missions, including new ones where it is shown that there is a blinding sandstorm on Perita that players will have to venture into. This is being added alongside older mission types like Void Cascade. They also outlined that Perita will have 10 older prime warframe relic sets that you can farm to earn at your leisure, instead of relying on Varzia.

There will also be new damage types being added to Warframe with Tau. This will involve combining Slash, Puncture, or Impact with the Tau damage type for a new combination. From here, they outlined how Brysko will play, and he looks like quite the strong addition to the roster!
Brysko’s Kit and Fornax Details
Brysko is the new detective-themed warframe and is also voiced by Matthew Mercer. They confirmed that his chimera variant skin will allow you to hear his voice while you play. He is going to come with, of course, a new alternate helmet and an exciting kit of abilities. Below are his passive and his abilities:
- His passive allows you to revive him with his dog if he goes down. You will have to collect little cores and bring them back to Brysko.
- His first ability will allow you to throw cards at enemies that detonate with a lightning bolt.
- The second ability levitates and chains enemies together, allowing you to deal damage to everyone chained. Throwing cards at enemies will do more damage to them.
- His third ability will let you gamble health regen for lifesteal and damage bonuses. The more you cast it, the greater the cost and reward.
- Finally, his fourth ability will summon that stylish revolver from the TennoCon demo. It appears to rely on Tau damage.

From here, they showed off a bit of Fornax, the ring around a planet on Tau. Fornax already has a unique punishment while playing in it. If you fall off a ledge, you die, not just spawn where you fell. Fornax will have 3 hubs you can venture to while you play in it. One will be the casino, and another will feature a giant sentient head with other NPCs that act as your vendors for that planet. Fornax will also feature vehicular gameplay and little grapple points to help you get around. They also detailed how Steel Path will work. There will not be acolytes, but instead little assassins sent out by the Hunra. Fornax will also feature void fissure missions. But this is all that we saw during the Devstream regarding Tau.
Closing Remarks
Devstream 198 was only 1 part of 2 Devstreams for Tau. The next is set for November 27th and will also feature the reveal of the next prime warframe (including the trailer). If you would like to watch the full Devstream for any minute details and the stunning gameplay shown, you can find it below!
