Is Gjallarhorn Finally Coming to Destiny 2?

Destiny 2 is currently in a bit of a lull period. In two weeks, comes the exotic quest for Bastion, and beyond that Empyrean Foundation. At the moment, though, players are left in a period of no new content or active events. This may not be the case. In fact, Gjallarhorn, the famed exotic rocket launcher, may be coming back.

Secrets Abound

Destiny has always been a game with a hidden layer beneath what casual players can see. Over the course of the last year, Bungie has graced fans with two of Destiny‘s most memorable missions. The Whisper and Zero Hour quests resulted in the acquisition of two of the game’s best exotics. The quests were hidden behind specific world events and were platforming heavy, difficult, and time limited. Now, the Reddit group raidsecrets has reasons to believe another secret exotic quest in this vein is coming, and coming soon.

This is a timeline put together by reddit user ExplodingHippo2016 which shows where in a given season secret exotic missions, The Whisper and Zero Hour launched respective to the big DLC content drop or season start. There is just over two months between the season start and the launch of the secret quest. This would line up with the present content lull. Additionally, the Season of the Dawn has had a large emphasis on buffing Solar sub-classes similar to the Arc week buffs during Season of the Drifter. In the datamine for the Solstice of Heroes event, there were allusions to players acquiring rocket launcher components during a Solar Week event, which never ended up occurring.

Correction: Dataminer JpDeathBlade discovered the rocket launcher component strings. It was the Reddit community that tied the components to Solar Week.

Rocket Launcher Components, You Say?

No rocket launcher in Destiny is more iconic than Gjallarhorn. It is the weapon that dominated the met during D1 and players have been clamoring for its triumphant return. Instead, last year, players were able to reclaim the D1 exotic rocket launcher Truth instead. This has done little to silence the fans. There has been little mention of Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2 until last week. In the exotic quest Devil’s Ruin, Saint 14 talks at length about Gjallarhorn and its construction from the armor of the Guardians that died at the Battle of Twilight Gap.

Eagle-eyed reddit user Scuramble found an exotic rocket launcher catalyst through the datamining site as well. This catalyst is not attached to any current exotic rocket launcher. This makes it a prime candidate for a new exotic. Gjallarhorn is the most requested exotic to return and the time is right to bring it back. Returning to Twilight Gap in the Devil’s Ruin quest opens up possibilities to explore the area further. An equivalent to exploring the backside of the Tower in Zero Hour if you will. Perhaps the components are armor pieces which a Guardian would need to collect over the course of a secret mission to reforge their own Gjallarhorn.
