Patent Suggests PlayStation 5 Pro Could Be In The Making

There have been a few rumors regarding the existence of a PlayStation 5 Pro in the past. But these were just that, rumors. However, it appears that Sony is really working on technology that could build a “high end” PS5 and also be utilized in cloud gaming.

Sony Interactive Entertainment filled a patent called “Scalable Game Console CPU/GPU Design For Home Console and Cloud Gaming”. The patent describes technology that would allow multiple SoC chips ( System on the Chip – CPU & GPU in one chip) to be connected with high-speed coherent buses forming even bigger chips.

This technology can then be used for creating a “light” version of the console like a base PS5, and a “High End” version using multiple chips with greater processing and storage capability. This could suggest a PlayStation 5 “Pro”.

With the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X on the market, the concept of an enhanced version of a base console is not new. We all can agree that it worked pretty well in this current generation of consoles. Hence a concept of an enhanced PS5 or Xbox Series X console does seem possible in the future. We can go even further with this. Despite the Xbox Lockhart not being officially confirmed, it’s almost certain that Microsoft will release 2 next-gen consoles this holiday. Xbox Series X being the “high-end”, and Xbox Lockhart as the “low-end” model. We will make sure to report on any new “high-end” console developments in the future.
