The Best 3 Assault Rifles In Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has officially been out for over a month now. Warzone 2, DMZ, and Multiplayer offer players a wide variety of different options in how to play. It might be hard to settle into a class or weapon setup that feels best in each mode. While there is no one-size-fits-all build for these 3 different modes. There are certainly some strong pieces to get your build started. Here are in my opinion the 3 best assault rifles currently in Modern Warfare 2.
Modern Warfare 2 Honorable Mention: Kastov 762
It is almost a staple that AK assault rifles are often near the top of the pile in a Call of Duty game. The Kastov 762 is no exception with its excellent TTK, good rate of fire, and customization options. Unlike previous AK models, the recoil really isn’t too bad on the 762 in comparison to previous iterations.
Mid-range encounters are where the 762 really shines. Expect strong accuracy at close and mid-range encounters. With just a good underbarrel attachment and a 40-round mag, you can lock down a mid-range objective like a boss.
Unfortunately, the Kastov 762 falls into the honorable mention category because at long ranges it really feels like it drops off in terms of damage output. You will spend a lot of time getting gunned down at long ranges from M4s and TAQ 56s.
If you have the skill you can certainly win these encounters but they are certainly more challenging. While you can make it more accurate via attachments, hip firing with the 762 lacks in tight spaces. The fire rate is slower which leads you to lose a lot of gunfights to SMG players that will run high fire rate machines like the Fennec and Minibak.
Number 3: Kastov-74U
The number three spot is taken up by another AK variant. It just goes to show how much strength there is in the AK platform. The 74U is a mobility and killing machine. Offering assault rifle damage with SMG mobility. In the right hands, the 74U can be one of the most dangerous guns in close quarters.
The speed and mobility that the 74U provides are the best in class. Combined with a high fire rate, the 74U can go toe to toe with most SMGs in close quarters. Thanks to it being an assault rifle it does well in mid-range encounters as well. If you are a run-and-gun-styled player you will immediately want to pick this one up.
A high-capacity 45-round mag and very little recoil make running through a team on a single mag a breeze. If you need to clean an enemy team off of an objective in a tight space all you will need is a 74U, a flashbang, and faith in your aim.
The major downside to the 74U is due to its strength at short range. It has a pretty big blind spot in terms of its long-range damage and accuracy. The recoil is very manageable in close quarters and even mid-range engagements. However, the 74U is not very reliable at long ranges and will burn through your ammo quickly. This makes it a blast to use in certain maps in multiplayer, and as a backup weapon in Warzone 2. But it’s hard to recommend in DMZ just due to how much ammo it can gobble up.
Number 2: M4
The M4 is the old reliable of the Modern Warfare series. While it is not strongest in any particular category, the fact it does a wide variety of things really well. That is why it is so high up this list.
Do you have an enemy that is a long distance down the lane? No problem, the M4 is one of the most accurate assault rifles even at long ranges. With a strong damage output at this range, in some of the bigger maps in multiplayer like Taraq, it is a must-have weapon.
The M4 is also a killer in DMZ with its high-damage rounds you can use it as a pseudo marksman rifle by switching it to single-fire mode and aiming for the head against AI opponents. Then switch to full auto to deal with pesky attacking players.
With a wealth of attachments at your disposal, you can really hone this gun into your playstyle in a big way. Prefer to run and gun with a focus on mobility speed with a simple red dot sight and small mag? Want to have a laser-accurate and long-range killing machine with a 60-round mag? You can do either of these things with the M4.
The only downside to the M4 is the simple fact that there are guns that are better in certain aspects in singular categories. You will not find a gun as well-rounded as the M4. It’s an essential tool in any mode you play in Modern Warfare 2.
Number 1: TAQ-56
The TAQ-56 is Modern Warfare 2’s Scar. if you remember the Scar from the original Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009, then you are likely not surprised to see this gun on this list. High damage, combined with a medium rate of fire makes the TAQ-56 a beast at all ranges. However, what sets the gun ahead of the reliable M4 is the fact that currently, you can have a build that practically removes all recoil thanks to a stock/underbarrel combination.
The only downside to the TAQ-56 is the recoil at long range, however, with the proper attachments, the recoil seemingly disappears into the mist. This alongside the massive 60-round mag you can equip the TAQ-56 with, you can cut down entire squads in both Warzone 2 and Multiplayer.
The range just seems to be irrelevant for the TAQ-56. The enemy runs up on you with an SMG? You can easily tap them down with just a handful of rounds. Need to lock down a lane at long range in domination? The TAQ-56 does this with ease and has the damage to deter enemies from objectives. With a fantastic iron sight built in, there really isn’t any range that’ll pose an issue for the TAQ-56 either. It is an all-around bully of an assault rifle that will serve you well in any of the game modes in Modern Warfare 2.
Modern Warfare 2 – The Gun Is Only As Good As The User
It goes without saying that you should explore each and every gun in Modern Warfare 2. Stats will only tell you part of a story, and you can never tell what gun might click with you. Don’t be afraid to step outside the “meta” guns and try out some of the more oddball options. After all, part of the fun of Call of Duty is creating your go-to class to wreck enemy teams with.
