Firaxis Games Announce Departures, New Studio Head, and Next Title
2K has just announced some high-level departures along with a new Studio Head that will be taking the reigns of Firaxis Games. In addition, the studio’s next project has been announced.
Dawn of a New Age at Firaxis Games
Publisher 2K announced that Heath Hazen has been promoted to Studio Head of Firaxis Games. She previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the studio.
Before joining Firaxis, Heather was an Executive Producer on Fortnite at Epic Games. She also worked at PopCap Games, the developer of titles such as Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled. Heather has over 25 years of experience in the industry and will steer Firaxis Games into a new dawn.
What’s Next for the Studio?
2K also announced that Firaxis’s next mainline game will be from Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise. The long-time 4x strategy game continues strongly. In fact, it is already in development. Though it is still unknown which stage of development the game has reached.
Ed Beach will continue his role as Creative Director on the upcoming Civilization title. While Jake Solomon, former Creative Director of the XCOM franchise and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, will be departing the studio. Despite strong critical reception, Midnight Suns did not meet commercial expectations. Though it is worth noting that titles from Firaxis tend to have a long tail, and fans can expect new updates and content for the game.
