Redfall Crossplay Confirmed During Arkane Q&A

Arkane confirmed that Redfall, their upcoming co-op first person shooter (FPS) game, will have crossplay between platforms. Players can join friends across Xbox, Steam and Epic Game Store platforms.

The Bethesda Studio confirmed Redfall’s crossplay during a community Q&A on their Discord Server. Redfall benefits from crossplay at launch since it plays in a co-op structure. Much like Borderlands, each player can play as one of four different characters, Devinder Crousley, Jacob Boyer, Layla Ellison, and Remi De La Rosa. Players can play with up to three other players, or play alone. When playing alone, the other three characters don’t join as AI-controlled players, it’s just that player.

In Addition to Crossplay

In addition to crossplay, Arkane also answered questions about the gameplay loop, difficulty scaling, and more. One question focused on the solo play vs. co-op play dynamics. The team reiterated character synergy with other characters, but also stressed how each character can stand on their own:

…Each of these heroes was designed from the ground up to be viable on their own. Playing together with friends adds more options to how you might approach a situation, but that’s a benefit of each hero having a fully realized set of options to begin with…Once that was done, then we started to look at how you could extend that experience with other players.

Players last saw Redfall at Xbox/Bethesda’s January Developer_Direct. There, we got a full look at the four character’s skill trees and abilities. In addition, we also saw what monsters, namely vampires, would get in our way.

Redfall and Starfield, another Bethesda title, lead Xbox’s release slate for 2023. Redfall was first revealed back in 2021 to close out Xbox and Bethesda’s joint E3 showcase. Starfield first appeared further back at Bethesda’s 2018 E3 Press Conference. Redfall releases on May 2nd of this year, while Starfield does not have a hard release date.
